Question about GE Kitchen Ranges

1 Answer

Display goes blank, no heat, no oven

GE JCSP42SKSS range just stopped working. No error code or anything not even a clock. All buttons are dead.
When I turn one of the knobs to start one of the surfaces, clock appears, and I can use buttons on a control panel but the surface still cold and oven doesn't work either. As soon as I turn knob off, display goes blank as well.
This happened once last week, but after turn off/on stove was working. Not this time though.

I have breaker. Reset it several times - to no avail. Besides, I think if I would have 120 working, the clock would be working all time. But it is not. Clock appears only when I turn surface on. Very strange...

I see what you are saying... I'll try to check a voltage on a range - my voltmeter needles are too short to check in the outlet.
BTW, can breaker itself become damaged somehow? I mean, fuse you just replace. But breaker - can it become damaged during normal use?

It was exactly what you suggested - only one line was working. The problem was not in the breaker, but a loose contact in the outlet. Thanks a lot!

This I hope will be an easy solution for you. I think you have a circuit breaker tripped or a fuse if you have a fuse panel.. I am guessing you have an old fuse panel. When you have a fuse blown on a 230 volt appliance and you turn a swith on (like your knob) it feeds back to other circuits on the 120 circuits and will make it do crazzzy things, like making lights and clocks work..Regardless if you have fuse or breaker you dont have the 240 volt to run the range..You only have one120 volt leg powering your stove.

Depending on the type circuit breaker you have, When you reset it, push hard off, then turn it back on.

  • butch welch Nov 03, 2008

You have 2 lines going to your stove, each 120 volts. the burners use both of them to heat. the clock and display uses only one of them to lite up. If the one going to the clock is not there of course it will not work and the burners will not work, but when you turn your knob on that 120 volt circuit that is there will feed thru the burner and provide voltage to the clock circuit and thus the displays will lite. I can tell you as a license electrician, you dont have 240 volts going to that stove. Did you try turning off your breaker. push it hard off. Sometime breakers are hard to reset. Do you have a volt meter.

Sure breakers can look good but be bad.. I dont think you are turning it off like I am telling you to do. Turn it off with some force, with your thumb and push it hard off. then turn it on..

Set clock on ge profile gas range

Didn't give a model number, but try the following:

For a mechanical clock, push the center knob in and turn the clock hands to the correct time. (If the Minute Timer pointer should move also, let the knob out, turn the Timer pointer to OFF.)

For a digital clock, push in the center knob of the Minute Timer and turn Knob in either direction to set the Digital Clock numerals to the correct time.

For an electronic clock, touch the Clock pad. Touch the number pad. Touch the start pad until the time of day shows in the display. Note: On double wall ovens, you can only set the Timer for one oven.

What buttons do I turn on my 25 yr old Kenmore stove to use the cleaning feature

I think that range had a mechanical clock. On it, you have to set the start and stop time (and push or pull the knob(s) to activate it), close the lock lever, and set the temperature and function dial(s) to self-clean. Unfortunately, if your clock isn't working (which is a common failure on stoves this old), you won't be able to run the self-clean cycle.

I have a Caloric Prestige series gas range. I don't have the manual and the clocks on the oven which allows you to set a start and end time for oven cleaning (I think that's what the clocks are for) do...

best thing you can do is to search for the manual of the unit either on the net or on the website of the merchant that sells of manufactures these units. Doing anything improperly might render the unit useless or if overdone, it might clog the heads and cause not to work, or worse, to clog and cause a build up and possibly an explosion. Don't mess with gas, do it properly and safely.

Clock on a GE electric range is buzzing - how to disconnect it

Turn off power to range first!!!

You'll have to remove the back of the panel in which the clock is installed to access the back of the clock. There will be two wires attached to the clock. Just pulling one of these wires off will stop the clock.

I would suggest, however, that you pull both wires off, put electrical tape on the ends of the connectors, and tuck them out of the way somewhere around the clock.

Oven wont turn on and f7 keeps beeping, but stove top burners work on ge spectra xl44 on model number jgbp86bea3bb

Hi there,
Well, F7 error code occures due to
A = Function pad button stuck or
B = Bad clock Unstick button or
Replace Electronic Range Control (ERC)

Replace the ERC there are ten screws 3 on each side and 4 on the control leave the hex screws alone all you need is a phillip screwdriver.
REMEMBER TO SHUT OFF THE POWER FIRST lift and fold out the control panel remove the ribbon cable and remove the four screws that hold the control board . replace control panel in reverse order.

Good Luck!!
Have a nice Day!!
Thanks

Bake button doesn't work even after ignitor replaced

While unlikely, the ignitor in theory could have damaged the ERC (main oven control) it is more likely you have a bad keypad. Try pressing and holding bake and broil pads at the same time for 5 seconds and see if the display shows SF (will look like 5F). If it does, press the start button and try again bake again

Caloric gas stove prestige series

to jenna 12 Does your stove have a stop and start timer? When you set your clock you may have inadvertantly moved the stop or start time on that timer. Check them, if they have knobs for setting the stop and start time, make sure the pointer is pointing to the current time and that the knob is popped out and not stuck in. when you have it right both the stop and the start knob should be out, not pushed in. They will pop out when you turn them to the current time.

These timers allow you to start something cookin at a time delayed several hours. this means they will not allow the oven to come on until it hits that time that you may have set in error.

If your stove has a digital stop and start timer check each one so that both show the current time, then your oven should light.
