When in recording mode, the LCD screen is all blacked out and hence I am not able to do the recording. When in playback mode, the blue screen appears with all the details but nothing gets played. a blinking message 'COLOR M.' appears on the screen when in play mode. Is it something about the settings problem?? Does the message 'COLOR M.' provide any help about troubleshooting the problem??
I just called Canon and they said that it is a known problem and they will pay for you to send it in and see what the problem is! If it is this chip that they have found to go bad then they will fix it for free but if not they will give you an estimate on what it will cost to fix it. I know it is the chip issue because when I called the support person told me that it is a problem they have frequently had that is why they are fixing them for free! Hope this helps!

I just contacted the customer service and told them about the problem and they said they would fix it for free and pay for shipping. There is a service bullitin out for this model for this problem. Good luck.

In the record mode the screen is black and not allowing me to see anything if you press the record button you can hear sound but does not record anything just black. evetything else seems to function ok
I have the same problem. When in record mode the screen is black and nothing gets recorded. When in playback everything works fine, I can playback video and see it on the screen just fine. The problem is only in the record mode.
