It's usually just the switch, and also be sure the damper door is not bent or blocked. We have the applicable service manuals for these models and have uploaded them to our site here and here to help you.

We regularly repair the circuit boards of microwave which are hit by storm surges, etc.

This repair usually runs $39.95 to $64.95, depending on if we have to replace the low power transformer. I just thought I'd mention this if you're interested.

But if you've decided on replacing it, the installation manual should be helpful in removing it from the wall. See it here.

SOURCE: Sharp 1870 just quit cooking and no turntable

The fact that the microwave and convection both do not heat indicated that the oven is in demo mode, check the user manual, otherwise it will possibly be a relay not triggering, may need a pcb replacement, check Demo mode 1st....Phil

SOURCE: Sharp R-1870 stops at 59 seconds

Wow. I just read something ridiculous!

Well, never mind that, here's your solution:

This is a common problem in one of the damper-related components, most likely the switch, but it may also be the motor or the damper door.

The damper is a door inside that opens or closes depending on cooking mode. If the controller senses that the door is not in the right position, it will shut down the cook cycle.

Sharp models stop after 59 seconds.

See the attached sample photo for a typical damper assembly.

We have the applicable service manuals for these models and have uploaded it to our site here and here to help you. You will need the free Adobe Reader to view or print it.

If a switch is all you need, we offer a universal type for only $5 postpaid which you can order here.

This is a problem in one of the damper-related components, either the switch or motor or the damper door may be binding.

I just had an appliance repair man check my Sharp R-1870 microwave for the 59 second shut off problem. He said it was the main circuit board. Has anyone run into this problem. Everything I google says...

I've had a similar problem with a 1983 Sharp Carousel microwave. It turned out to be a faulty door micro switch, the contact didn't stay closed inside it for very long.

Sharp micro counts down 59 seconds and stops

It seems this has been happening over the last few years. I am a retired appliance tech. My 1870 also started the 59 second routine, Also in a motor home. Pure logic. Had to be the board. New board same results. So now I need to run down a parts manual and possibly service manual, and get the damper switch and motor refered to in earlier posts. Changing out the board was fairly simple. Dropping the unit to change out the other components sounds like it will be a tad bit more difficult.

No matter what time i put in it cuts off in 60 seconds on a sharp

This sounds like a bad damper switch or motor. Double check the shut off time....... see if it's actually 59 seconds..
When you unplug the unit from the wall for 2 minutes then plug it bad in, you should be able to faintly hear a motor run for a few seconds. This is the damper motor running. This will verify that the motor is operating.....
Also, check the thermistor.
