Husqvarna Chain Saw 20" Bar Logo
Posted on Nov 02, 2008

Chain locked I lent out my Husqvarna 350 chainsaw, 1st mistake, and when it was returned the chain is locked, it can not even be manually rotated. I took the cover off and nothing jumps out at me and I don't want to screw anything up. There is no troubleshooting section in the owners manual. Any suggestions??

Well if you thought about it a chainsaw runs on a cintrifugal clutch so even if the engine was seized the chain and bar would probably still turn. I build log homes for a living and have a Husq 357xp and have dealt with things like this before. My guess is you weren't oiling good enough or at all, check that you are after fixing the seize. Kinda dumb question, have you checked your chain brake?

Can you turn the chainsaw over ( pull start cord s l o w l y .) if not your friend may have seized the engine. ( no oil in fuel, assuming it is two stroke.) then remove the chain and bar ( usually a couple of nuts/bolts) and try turning it over again. If it turns over or even starts, then the chain bar or clutch may need replacing. good luck.

Husqvarna pole chain saw 326 p5x - grinding noise and chain does not rotate - what needs adjustment?

Take chain off, look for bent or broken teeth. Check chain grove, look for broken or embedded pieces, clean and oil well. If not, it's motor problem

How to remove the chain from a husqvarna 235e chainsaw?

Like this or pretty close.

  1. Cock brake while expanding chain brake binder by pulling brake handle towards left-hand (wrap-around) handle grip, hard, until it locks in place.

  2. Loosen 2 brake-asssembly-and- bar retaining nuts but do not remove yet.

  3. Unscrew (turn CCW) bar adjustment screw on front face of unit in order to shorten bar and slacken saw chain.

  4. Slip chain off bar over bar tip and towards inward side of bar.

  5. Remove two nuts loosened in step 2 and pull brake assembly and bar straight out and off bar mounting studs.

  6. While rotating clutch/brake-drum, maneuver saw chain off sprocket and around drum perimeter to remove from saw.

  7. Repeat/reverse steps 6 thru 1 in that order to reassemble.

Reference the Husqvarna 350 chainsaw. Why does the chain continue to turn at idle? I just installed a new clutch. Adjusting the idle down causes the saw to shut off upon trying to accelerate.

Sounds like the clutch is still grabing. Easy solution is to apply the chain brake at idle to stop the chain turning. Try adjusting the L screw for a smoother idle.

Cutting a log with 455 rancher chain locked up took cover off replaced chain ,chain spins with cover off put cover on chain is locked up again husqvarna

It sounds like the chain is too tight. Loosen up the tension on the chain by turning the tensioning screw located on the end of the saw where the bar goes out.

Cutting with 455 rancher chain locked up took cover off ,replaced chain and put cover on still locked up

Husqvarna - IPL, 455 Rancher/ 460, 2006-02, Chain Saw (example - may not be your saw):
http://weborder.husqvarna.com/order_static/doc/usa/2006/I06000/I0601076.pdf
See Detail A, pn 503 89 08-02. You can use a Crescent Wrench on one of the ears (left end) to reset it. With the cover positioned with pn 503 89 08-02 in the upper left rotate it CW until it nests, to reset it.

This works quite well:
Reset Chain Brake by Dolfoff
Please follow this link, http://www.fixya.com/support/t3102817-re_install_side_cover_after_chain
Cursor down to “Best Solution”, while there click the “Was this helpful? [Yes]” button
If you do not have a vise a large C clamp to a work surface might work, you may still need a block or two of wood.

You can download the IPL for you saw here:
HusqvarnaUSA.com
http://www.husqvarna.com/us/homeowner/support/download-manuals/
Enter the 3 digit model number (no XPs, Es, just the numbers)
Serial number decode – useful when downloading IPLs and Manuals
06 1500198
06 = year produced – 2006 (single digit before 2000)
15 = week produced - March
00198 = 198th unit Husky produced that week

I will wager you will NEVER again remove the cover with the brake set. Me either! Good Luck. HTH

Husqvarna chain saw oiler problem

I fear you are correct about the oiler problem. I see a lot of oiler problems on these saws. Sooner or later Husky will have to address it. Ask the dealer about modifying your oiler; the 350 has an adjustable and might fit 1 or both of these saws. I think Husky needs to admit the nonadjustable is a mistake, and come up with a fix.

If you want to do some research start with the IPLs here:
HusqvarnaUSA.com

Enter the 3 digit model number (no XPs, Es, just the numbers)

Please post back (below) with what happens at the dealer. Take your buddy and his saw with you! Good Luck. HTH

If Husky starts modifying all these with 350 oilers I want compensation...LOL

Chain sprocket won't turn on my 450e series chainsaw

The most common causes are the chain is to tight or the chain brake is triggered.

Page 15 discusses how to check oiler operation and page 17 discusses both chain tension and the chain brake. You cannot check the oiler if the chain cannot rotate. (you provided no serial number, this may not be your saw Feb-2008)

Husqvarna chainsaw 440e - enough chain lube?

That seems low to me. Page 15 in your manual is the only oil discussion I found. Usually there is an oil pump adjustment reference somewhere. I didn't see one beyond return it for service on page 15. Are the chain and bar hot after cutting a while? I recommend you not get a longer bar without an oiler adjustment. I think the hand of the EPA has been here.

An IPL (exploded parts list) for a 440 can be found here:
http://weborder.husqvarna.com/order_static/doc/USA/2009/I09000/I0901018.pdf
There is no oiler adjuster listed. HTH
Lou
Might be a good idea to copy the IPL,
