I have fixed the problem by doing as the manual suggests. I simultaniously pressed the (-) key and the ) key while taking a battery out and putting it back in. This reset my calculator.

Without performing a hard reset, you can avoid implied multiplication and insert a multiplication sign (*) between a variable and a function. For example if you enter xsin(x) you must insert the multiplication sign (*) and write x*sin(x), otherwise the calculator will assume that xsin( is a function. It will look for it and not finding it, will send an error message. Similarly, if you want to enter x times y or some othervariable, you must insert the multiplication sign, x*y

Notefolio app not showing in my TI89

Transfer it to the calculator, if you have not done so already. If it has been installed, it should show on the AppsDesktop. To explore the desktop, use the arrow keys. You can also deactivate the AppsDesktop ON on the last page of the MODE, to have a list displayed when you press the Apps key. Once you find the NoteFolio app, select it and press ENTER. Here is how you proceed afterwards.

How do you restore lost programs on TI 89

Click here to go to the Texas Instruments web site to download APPS. Stroll down to where it say's, "Technology", and left mouse click the select bar. Then stroll down to "Ti89, Ti89 titanium", and make another left mouse click. Now stroll down to "VIEW" and make another left mouse click. This will drop down a menu with all the available APPS categories. Select which category you want, and left mouse click again. Next, left mouse click, "FIND" and it will take you to all the APPS in that category. Choose the APP you want to download, and left mouse click again. This will take you to that APP's download site, and stroll down a little to "Download Item". Left mouse click the APP you want, and another screen will pop up and ask you to log in. Go ahead and click, "continue as a guest", and the APP will be downloaded to your screen. Go ahead and left mouse click "SAVE", to save it on your computer. That way you can get it later, and download it with TI connect to your calculator.
If you ever want to get to the Ti89 web site in the future just google search Ti89, and the go to one of the Ti89 education sites. All you have to do once your at the site is left mouse click, "Downloads and Activities", and the same, "Technology" bar will show up. Just repeat the process I gave you earlier, and you should have no trouble.

Derivitive help

Your x or X variable contains garbage values coming from some previous calculations.
In Home screen press [2nd][F1] to activate the (F6) function key.
Select [1: Clear a-z] or [2:NewProb]
This will clear the contents of all one-letter variables.
Press [F3: Clac] and select [1:d ( differentiate]
Enter the function right after the left parenthesis
Enter a comma
Enter the name of your independent variable, presumably x
Close the parenthesis and press [ENTER]

In the following screen capture the pipe symbol | may not be available to you on the TI89 keyboard, so you must find it at the end of the [CATALOG].

The screen capture come from a Ti92Plus not a Ti89 (the screen is larger), but the instructions given above are valid.

My ti89 won't turn on and i already replaced the batteries

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

I received this solution, but at the end the calculator asked me about some invalid certificate. Now the ti 89 is stuck at the boot screen because if I retry, it goes thru the whole process again and asks...

Hello,
The answer I gave you was taken verbatim from the TI FAQ and knowledge base. I copied and pasted the part relevant to you calculator.
In any case, I sent an e-mail message to [email protected], giving the link to your original question and my answer to it. I took the liberty to copy/paste your present message. I also asked about that invalid certificate.
All we can do know is wait for their reply.

KEY

The TI83 does not have a computer algebra system, so you cannot solve algebraic equations for a variable. For that you would need the TI89, TI92 or higher.
