Microwave Cooktop / Night Light not working

I have a GE Profile JVM1850SH02 microwave. The cooktop / night light is not working. Pushing the buttons on the front of the microwave causes the display to change showing High, Low or Off. I've unplugged the microwave and replaced the bulbs but this did not solve the problem. Everything else is functioning normally. Any suggestions on what I could do to correct this?.

I would check the door switches with a digital meter, set to ohms, disconnect one wire from switch and test for open and short by pressing door switch, if you hit one that tests the same when pressing and releasing, switch should be replaced.

SOURCE: Panasonic NN-P295 Cooktop Light not working

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week.

At our Web site, you can get details of our service, plus we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan operation, too. The lights and fan can be inoperable or stuck on too.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number) for more information & help.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

SOURCE: GE JVM1660 1000 Watts Microwave Oven

This is a problem with the control panel assembly, which we repair nationwide for $39.95. This is usually caused by not disconnecting the microwave from the power line when removing or installing a bulb or by the filaments shorting when the bulb blows. If you decide to send it for service, we have *critical* safety and disassembly info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

Advantium display reads "nite"

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for about 5 minutes. Feel free to contact me directly (see below) if you have other questions.- William E. Miller, AS-EET

Vent cover does not close

I had the same problem. It was the plastic that holds the folding vent cover, it cracked. I didn't do anything about it and just let it go. Mistake. Last night it broke off completely, on both sides! So now I am looking at a much bigger project to try to glue/build the darn thing. I suggest you get up there with a flash light when it is open and see if there is any sign of the plastic cracking. If so, take out the two screws on the top and that will let you pull your vent cover off completley and you might be able to glue the plastic and reenforce any weak areas. I have found many posts about this problem on line and sounds like GE charges about $400 to fit it (more than a new one!) Good luck!

Cooktop Light / Night light

It is the control panel. You can actually just replace the circuit board on the control panel and it should fix this.
