Mower Belt Will Not Engage....I have a Husqvarna YTH20K46 Lawn tractor. Yesterday my mower blades just stopped. I noticed that there is now NO tension when I engage the belt Lever that is next to the steering wheel. When I engage the Lever, I can engage it but the mower belt is not moving or tightening when I do move the Lever. Visually everything looks fine. Not sure what to do.

The two Pulleys appear okay. The belt looks looser then it normally does however. But it does not appear the belt is broken. Even if the belt is a little loose fitting. Shouldn't there still be tension when I engage the Lever? Doesn't the tension come from the Spring?

Blades will not engage

when you actuate the "engage blade" lever, two things may occur,
First, a mechanical action, a spring moves to put tension onto the belt.
Second; at the end of its run, actuate a switch (PTF switch) to engage the clutch that moves the pulleys that consequentially move the blades.
if the tensioner is not moving , check if spring has come lose, undone or broken, (more likely in your case) or check the PTF switch.
any other assistance, contact me, good luck.

I have a 42" mtd lawn tractor. The blades do not

The blades engage via a belt, that goes around a series of pullies, one of those pullies is a tension pulley that is connected to your pto lever by springs, the engine has nothing to do with your blades until after you engage the lever, I would check your belt. It could be loose, and if you engage the blades it could take it a few to get up to speed, thus making it seem like its only when the engine is warm.
Does everything else work fine? As in the tractor moves when the blades are not engaged?

Blades wont ingage

I would check the belt, the pulleys and the tension of the pulleys. Any of these could be the cause of your issue. Hope this helps!

When I engage the blades nothing happens. Any ideas?

I have a YTH 150 with a similar problem. The mower has an electrically powered clutch which is activated when you engage the blade button. If the drive belt has no tension on it, engaging the clutch doesn't do anything because the drive wheel will just spin but the blades won't. Look for broken tension springs on the mower deck and replace.

Ihave a yth2448 husqvarna lawn motor. mower stall out as soon as i engage it. i have noticethe battery is discharging even when mower is not engage. any suggestion. i justv replaced the starter and...

check the belt as it bound, if you do not think so then take it off(the belt) and engage the PTO if it does not die then it is: the belt, pulley, or blades are/is the reason why it is stalling Tim

I have a husqvarna riding mower that when i engage the blades the engine stops running

Could be something jamming a blade or belt. With the engine OFF and the key OUT make sure the blades and belts all move freely by hand. Clear out all grass and c**p from the blade and belt areas. You may have to remove the blade deck to do this - instructions are in your manual or download a manual from the Husqvarna website. Good Luck!

Blades will not engage on Husqvarna riding mower.

Could be a broken belt, loose belt (stretched) or something is under the mower deck jamming the blades. (stick for an example)

Blades became disengaged -- won't engage

Sometimes the belt can jump off one pulley and cause the problem, follow the belt around all the pulleys and see if it came off one.there may be a belt loosening lever on the lh side of the mower deck, if so unlock it and reroute the belt around the pulley. If you need to replace the belt the manual has a good description on how to do it and should take 30 min with only a couple of tools.

Husqvarna YTH20K46

Is this the first time cutting grass with a lawn tractor?
How tall of grass?
Use the grass cutting heigth adjustments on the tractor to a higher setting when cutting tall grass. Cut again to a lower height setting on the second pass. Grass higher than your tractor is not good for your tractor. Follow the manual instructions for best results.
