Question about D-Link DIR-625 (790069292637) Wireless Router

D-link DIR-625 wireless router is setup and wired to laptop

The 625 wireless router is setup wired to my laptop. Cable modem has ethernet cable going to the Wireless router, another ethernet cable going to the Laptop from the wireless router. How do I disconnect the Laptop from the wireless router and still be able to access the internet wirelessly, without being connected to the router with the ethernet cable from the Laptop. In other words grab my laptop and connect to the internet from anywhere in range. The network has been built also. I cant get the Laptop to connect to the network without it being wired.

Information needed about your Wireless Network:

SSID or the wireless network name
Type of Security (WEP / WPA) and the password or passphrase
Channel

You need to configure your laptop's wireless feature to use the above information.

Go to Network Connection and right click on the wireless connection icon then choose View Available Networks.

routers I think one of them is called Linksys and the other is D-Link. connect to the internet and use for awhile like 1-2hours,
it will disconnect. And when it reconnects again, it disconnects...
right clicked Properties on Wireless Network Connection but there isn't
the Wireless Network Connection Tab. Mine just gave 3 tabs, General,

When you first connect your new router to the modem, you are powering
the modem off - it cant "see" the router otherwise, and you've
obviously disconnected you PC from the modem.

Can you first get a wired connection between your PC <> router
<> modem <> internet working, before you then try to add in
    the wireless?

Switch on the wifi of your laptop, then login the router, go to basic settings, does your internet connection require a login , if yes, then type your login id, and password, for internet ip address, select get ip address dynamically from isp, same in DNS server, apply it.

First of all make sure the Wireless switch in your Laptop is turned on.

Now Disconnect the cable from the Laptop to the Wireless router

Now go to your Wireless Network connection and search for the available network. Select the appropriate network and connect.

Thanks

Also make sure if there is any third party firewall like Norton Internet Security or firewall from Mcafee, disable it.

If the above steps did not resolve the issue click on this link http://support.dlink.com/faq

Enter your D-Link product model, i.e. DIR-625 in the search box and hit enter.

It will take you to the page which guides you in how to access the router page, check your IP settings.

    Thanks

I currently have DSL service. I just received a hand me down d-link DIR-625 router. I do not have the set-up disk. I want to run DSL on my desktop computer since it doesn't have a wireless adapter. I also...

Use an Ethernet cable from the Ethernet port on your DSL modem to the 'WAN' port on the router.

Use another Ethernet cable from one of the 'LAN' ports on the router to the network-port on your desktop.

Click Start
Click Run
Type CMD
Press Enter
Type IPCONFIG
Press Enter
Look for output like: ... gateway ... 192.168.123.456
Start Internet Explorer
Type http://192.168.123.456 (or whatever value you saw)
Login to the router
Run its "Wireless Network Setup Wizard" to:
* set an SSID
* set an encryption-level, e.g., 'WPA' or 'WPA2'
* set a password
Use the SSID/password on your wireless laptop.

most wireless routers are setup for cable modems out of the box all you need to do is run an Ethernet cable from your modem to your wireless router. you can then access your wireless router by the ip address and a pc hooked you directly to the router.

I want to plug in another wireless router into my surfboard modem and have the wireless router work as well as the surfboard. Is there a way to do this successfully?

Yes this is possiable. First you need to unplug the power to the Motorola and the new router. Second connect the ethernet cable from the Motorola to the internet port on your second router. This port may be colored in yellow, marked as modem, or the ethernet port by its self. Third connect a ethernet cable from the new router to a desktop or laptop this is only to configure the new router. Next power on the Motorola and wait for the online light to become solid. Then plug in the power to the new router. Give the router about two minutes to obtain ip address from the motorola then try to get on the internet with the pc connected with the ethernet cable. Now you can run the new router setup cd on the wired pc to setup router. Once completed remove ethernet cable to the pc and connect to either network you have and you are good to go. Any questions just ask.

I need to connect a D-Link router to my cable modem so that I can use my laptop anywhere in my home

Cable-modem <-- Ethernet cable --> WAN (or "Internet") port on the router

LAN port on router <-- Ethernet cable --> network-port on your laptop

Then, access the "built-in" web-server on the router,
and run the "Wireless Networking Setup" wizard:
* to set an SSID ("network-name")
* an encryption-level (Hint: choose 'wpa')
* a password for your wireless network

Then, disconnect the Ethernet cable from your computer,
and then "wireless available wireless networks".
Select your newly-created network, and connect to it.

Take the ethernet cable which is going from your Warner cable modem to your computer, and run it from your cable modem to the input connection of your router. Then take a second ethernet cable and run it from the router (ports 1, 2,3 or 4) to your computer. Log into your router's setup page (see your instruction manual), and set up all the passwords and wireless settings. Please read the instructions for specifics of your particular router.

Connecting Laptop wireless and Desktop wired to the router

Do you need to see the desktop or just share folders from each other? If the latter then you need to do the following:

Use Windows Explorer and select a folder you want to share. Right click and select sharing and security.

On the sharing tab click on Share this folder. Enter a share name ( I like to enter the PC name _folder name; Rick1_Downloads)

Click on Permissions. If your ok with everyone using the PC's and Laptops having access then highlight Everyone and click on Full Control.

Do this on each PC and Laptop.

That should be it or darned near close.

2wire Wireless router not working w/Comcast cable modem

Its almost impossible to connect a 2wire DSL router with a Cable modem. They dont go hand in hand.
Although you can connect the outgoing ethernet wire from the modem in the last ethernet plug on the back of the router and then have the ethernet connections coming from the router. But not wireless. and if you find a way, contact me at jneal2k9@hotmail.com
