Can't change paper source

My printer suddenly only wants to print from the rear tray (which I had to look for -- didn't know it had one). I've tried resetting the paper source through the computer and by pressing the feed switch. Neither one works. Keeps flipping back to rear tray. What do I do with this?

The paper source keeps re-setting itself to "feed switch." Changing the paper source from the document print setup window or from the printer window doesn't stick. When I try to print after re-setting, the printer still tells me the rear tray has no paper and to load some. I look and the setting is back to "feed switch", even when I change the selection and save it, then immediately reopen the window, it's back to feed switch. Clicking the feed switch on the printer has no effect. There is paper in the cassette.I am not seeing any numbered error code, just the no paper warning.

When you go to print you should get a print page on which you will see properties
click on that and select the tray you want to print from
make that tray the default tray-- apply ---and ok

SOURCE: mp600 pixma printer

I'm not sure if you've already checked this, but this was my issue. I, too, would try to print something and it would make a great deal of clunking noise but would then say that there was no paper and told me to load some. I went to the Canon site and before I actually went through the process of cleaning the print roller, I checked the feed switch button on the display panel. It's right below the ON/OFF button and, what do you know, it was set to feed from a paper cassette instead of the back loading tray. I pushed the button and it's now printing fine. I'm sure we must have accidentally hit the button when we were trying to turn the printer on or off quickly. Hope this does the trick! It's always nice when it's something easily fixed!

SOURCE: Can't print business cards. Won't feed from rear tray.

I just spend over an hour on the phone with Canon for the same problem... the resolution is simple. From the Control Panel, select Printers & Faxes. Right-click the mp620 printer, and select Properties. Select Printing Preferences from the bottom of the General tab, then click the Page Setup tab. Choose Print Options at the bottom. Place a check mark in the box next to "Disable the paper source setting of the application software." Click OK 3 times and the problem should be solved.

How to use the back paper tray for Canon Pixma MG5220 Printer

To use the Rear Tray for your current print job (this should last until you close Word) :
Use Ctrl+P to open the printer window. Click on the Properties button. On the Quick Setup tab find the Paper Source drop-down and select Rear Tray. Click the OK button.

To permanently set the Rear Tray as the default:
Click the Windows Start button, then click Control Panel and select Printer. In the popup window right click on your printer icon and select Properties. On the General tab, click the Printing Preferences button. On the Quick Setup tab find the Paper Source drop-down and select Rear Tray. Click the Apply button, then the OK button.

Jam on roller

I had many jams using a Kodak printer, but lately I've been fanning the paper, which they may have told me to do, but I didn't know how to do it. Here is a step by step way to do it. Take the stack of paper you plan on using in your printer & straighten it by taking it by each side & tapping it on a surface (like a desk top). Bend the stack of paper as if going to fold it in half. On one side, the stack is fanned out. Grab the paper on the long sides with both hands & slide it into the printer tray. Go ahead & print, I've had fewer jams since loading my paper this way. Give it a try, see if it works for you!!!

I have a canon mx870 and it will not print from the cassette lower tray, even if it is set to it, it always wants to print from the rear, even if it is closed!

It may be that, if it's not the tray allocation settings causing the problem, some printer maintenance will fix this. I had this problem, after I had only had my MX870 a couple of months. Suddenly, it would not print from the cassette even when printing to standard A4 plain paper. Nor would it print from the cassette even when I changed the printer settings from 'automatic' tray selection to print always from the cassette. After seeing something online, I then ran some of the MX870 maintenance applications, first 'Cleaning', then 'Print Head Alignment', and finally 'Roller Cleaning' for the cassette rollers (for which you have to remove all paper from the cassette). The problem has been solved (at least for the moment).

Printer selects tray1 as default tray. how can this be changed?

Tray 1 by default is set to any size, any type, which means that no matter what you print, it will pull from tray 1. You can change that by setting tray 1 for a specific size and type, such as 8.5" x 11"(Letter) and Plain paper, and then going into the print driver options (Control Panel, Printers & Faxes, right click on the HP 3550 and select Properties) and under the paper input tray, change it to either tray 2 or 3.

Canon IP4600 won't feed from rear tray.

It turns out that if you read the documentation VERY carefully it says that "if the application program specifies 8.5x11 plain paper and that is what is loaded in the front cassette you cannot print from the rear tray". It turns out that this is true even if you go to the printer driver and specify "rear tray" manually. The driver disregards the setting. You can force printing plain paper from the rear tray by going to the Canon "My Printer" icon and forcing ALL printing from the rear tray. If you do this, remember to change it back. You can also print plain paper from the rear tray if you specify the "allocation" option and the paper from the front cassette runs out. You can always print from the rear tray if the application that created the print job specifies something other than 8.5x11 without resorting to the forced override, e.g. printing a .jpg or .gif or something from an application like Paintshop or Printshop, etc.

Supply rec paper tray - what does this mean when the tray is loaded?

OK, I was having a similar problem: Tray full of paper and tray adjusted properly.

Whatever I tried, the printer kept saying load paper.

I went to print menu>properties button (windows XP this is next to the printer name)>paper source tab.

It tuned out that the paper source had been changed from cassette to multi-purpose tray.

Change it back to cassette and you should be golden.
