1200 GS RUNS ROUGH DOESN'T WANT TO IDLE, HELP PLEASE!

Hi all, i have a R1200 GS BMW it started to idle very rough it gave no signs ,fine one day next day it would not idle. changed spark plugs no difference. left bank does not seem to be burning all the fuel took out the injector it seems to be fueling fine coils seem to spark fine start bike pull off injector wire off, the bikes idle stays the same pull off right bank and bike dies left bank runs much cooler than right so I've got spark,fuel and compression and I've got no idea what the problem is. any ideas?

Sounds like you have a dead stick coil, Zoltan.

The twin spark bikes fire both plugs at the same time. However, above 2800rpm or so the lower plugs stop firing.

Try swapping out the stick coils (all of them) with known working ones as a test.

Should be under the seat ... find the two bolts that typically hold the back of the seat down .. remove them to find the battery box.

Alternatively, you could check in your owners manual or if you dont have one ... you might look at the manufacturers web site or www.archive.org.

Lastly, you could stop by the motorcycle shop parts department and mane a friend of the counterman. They know everything ... and are generally willing to talk.

Carburator clean up could help solve the problem, it seems some dirt may have entered the float chamber!
Blow the jets with compressed air.

I'm having a similar electrical/idling problem with my Dakar with 6K miles on it and 2 seasons on battery. What did you finally determine as cause?
