I found that the rubber seal on the bottom of my cyclone is not properly seated to the bottom of canister, I guessed when I removed the clear canister bin completely from cyclone unit for cleaning, I put the cyclone down on the floor and rubber seal accidentally move upward just a little. this creates a small gap on the bottom when I reassembled it, (since seal is up from it original position a little). I pulled rubber seal down to its original position, you will notice that there should not be a gap on the bottom at all, this way you do not have to clean or should not have to clean the filter but once a month or even less.
I've had this problem as well which started for me after using the Dyson to clean up a pile of confectioners sugar my son dumped out. Various nooks and crannies inside the Dyson became clogged causing irregular behavior of the vacuum. Clean the cyclone as others have suggested but also get inside the cyclone for a more thorough cleaning. There are 3 hex screws by the handle, remove these and take the handle off. You can now see the tops of the cones which for 4 were completely caked with sugar. Scrub each cone out good and blow compressed air in each to really blast out the clogs. Take off all other removable piping and clean thoroughly. This should return the unit to its regular operating state and hopefully stop debris from making it through to the filter. Hope this helps.
I fix Dysons for a living. The reason the DC39 filter gets dirty "too fast" is due to the internal gasket failing inside the cyclone. After the gasket is replaced the filter takes the typical 3 months to get dirty.
It sounds like the cleaner hasn't been reassembled correctly after emptying. I would have to look to give a definite answer or check with Dyson.
If you are getting dirt, hair, debris, etc. on your filter it is because of the rubber ring at the bottom not being seated properly. It took me buying a new filter and it getting clogged after a few swipes to figure out. Wish I would have seen this earlier!
Hi if you turn vac over and look at the cover that hides the brush roller and remove the cover ? it is held by nylon twist 45 degree left type screws ? then you may find the brush housing clogged as well as the channel flow tube below the brush ? lift brush out and release from belt to enable to clean of hairs/carpet strands etc ? then reassemble next remove the clear canister and clean you will then see the cone/air filter ? it has hundreds of holes that get clogged due to vacuum created in cyl use a small implement and poke every hole clear ? if these are clogged vacuum remains in operative resulting in no vac at pickup head/brush beater roller assume you have replaced the disposable filters? hope this helps not an uncommon/fault and easy remedy

Does the cone with all the little holes seperate from the top piece that is gray and purple with the handle (when you pull the canister off to empty)? We see stuff up in there and can't seem to get it out....
I've had this vacuum for about a year now, and I love it. But lately, it always has the high pitched whine and isn't picking up - when I check the filter, it's full of dust, dirt, and dog hair. This never used to happen - I could go several months withough cleaning the filter, and now suddenly, I have to clean it every week. The rest of the vacuum is clean. What could the problem be?
We have EXACTLY the same problems with our Dyson Animal; we went for months without cleaning the filter and now we must do it every time we use the vacuum. Additionally, it is making the same whiny sound and the suction actually cuts off and we have to touch the little hole on the back botton left of the vacuum in order to get it to come back on. We have cleaned as much as we can and nothing seems to work!
I have the same problem, and Dyson is a fraud with their claim of never clogging. My filter is CLOGGED with hair and other **** the CANISTER should be collecting. What a fraud for a $550 vac.
