Monitor blacks out

Im having a problem with my moitor. The screen goes completely black but the power light it still on. It started doing this after it was used for a bit but now does so as soon as I turn it on. The thing I dont get is I took it up to best buy to have them check it out but it didnt do it there. Im assuming then that it is my computer but have no idea how to fix this. Any ideas for me? Thanks!

HP M70 monitor comes on o.k. 90% of the time, but it fades to a black screen and then it fades back to a normal screen. If it does not fade back to normal in a few seconds, 1 or 2 light taps on the monitor brings it back to normal. Fading to black and then back takes about 20 seconds. Somedays it does it 5-10 times, other days it does'nt do it at all. 10% of the time we tap it to make it come on.

Its not you or your PC. if you read around, its clearly a monitor problem, a manufacturer monitor problem, since so many people are having the exact same problem.

I cant turn my computer off once my screen is working, in fear of me having to sit there for a good 5-60 mins turning off and on, and off and on the pc and monitor again after again to hope the next time the screen isnt just plain black.

Sounds like your video adapter settings have been wedged. If you are running Windows XP Service Pack 2, you can use the following steps. 1) Boot the laptop into safe mode. Boot into safe mode with networking support if possible. This can be done by tapping the F8 key as the computer first turns on. 2) Once you are at the Desktop, right click on My Computer and select Manage. 3) In the window that appears, select Device Manager from the menu on the left. 4) Find Display Adapters on the right and click the plus sign. This will list the video adapter that you have. NOTE: WRITE this down EXACTLY. You may need to go and get drivers for this. Seeing this is an older model, I doubt you'll need it, but better to be safe then sorry. 5) Go to your manufacturers support web site and download these drivers. You may not need them, but better to be safe then sorry. http://tcc.toughbook.com/ NOTE: Skip step 5 if you did not boot with network support or cannot get to the Internet. This can be done from normal mode. 6) Right click on the display adpater and choose un-install. Hit OK on the window that appears and reboot the machine when the process is done. 7) The machine will take longer than usual to boot, as Windows XP is re-discovering the video adapter and resetting everything to the defaults. When it is done booting, the screen may look weird since the settings are now the defaults. You can the set them to what you want by right clicking on the desktop and selecting properties. Then go to the settings tab. 8) IF it did not re-discover the video adapter (this can be confirmed through the device manager), then go ahead and install the drivers. Windows Update will most likely also have the drivers. NOTE: This process should work with Windows 2000 as well, although I was not able to test it. The only issue I can think of is that it may not auto-discover the video adapter, and you would have to manually download and install the drivers.

SOURCE: Monitor goes blank less than a second after turning on.

This is an easy problem to diagnose but not so easy to fix. the power inverter for the backlight is dead. this is a very common problem with lcd monitors, if it is a module they are usually range in price from $20-75.

My laptop screen is black, no light or picture at all. I can use an external moitor but the laptop monitor show s no form of life. Would this be my Inverter, my monitor/screen or something else.

First of all do you see anything on the screen, but really really dark, or is it pitch black. If you see something but it is black, then it is your screen backlit bulb and needs to be replaced. If it is just pitch black and nothing, then it mostly your inverter or a loose connection between your base to your screen since laptop tends to open and close alot.

Dell monitor S199WFP....the blue power light stays on....the screen goes black after a few seconds. I've checked the power cord and the cord connecting the monitor and computer. Do I just need to get a new...

What do you mean your screen goes black. It is black to start isn't it? Does it come on at all?
If you meam you are getting a display, but it goes off, you need to check the power settings for your monitor, that are set by your PC. Click start, then control panel, then double click display. Then in the Dispay Properties window, click the Screensaver tab at the top middle. In the lower half of the page which opens, you can find power settings, and the rest is self explanatory. If this is not the answer to your problem, you need to give more detailed information.
One check you can do is to disconnect the signal cable from your monitor, and switch power on, and see what is displayed. You may well need a new monitor, but before running off to buy one, try to borrow one to connect to your pc, and also if possible, try to connect your monitor to another pc, or to a notebook/laptop.

Screen shows for 2 seconds, then black, power button still on

You could have an inverter problem or a faulty CCFL lamp/s.

Monitor blacks out

I have repaired several LCD monitors and of the ones I have repaired it has always been swollen caps on the inverter inside the monitor. Usually it's 2 or 3 swollen caps. $3 - $5 a soldering iron and a little luck I mean skill is all it usually takes.

Have you tried connecting the monitor to a laptop and testing it?

If that works then it is possible your video card is going bad on the PC it's self, I have also had to replace caps on video cards as well.

Hope this info helps

Moitor went black and will not come on at all

This could for many reasons, the main ones are

  • The monitor light is burned and needs to be replaced
  • The video card slot is fried, the card it self
You can try to get a VGA Cable, connect it from your computer to an external screen, press the "Function Key" + "dual screen key" on your keyboard, if u see the screen then its the monitor lights problem.

else, try to change the video card, its slot

Monitor screen goes out (black) 2 seconds after turning on

Your site is extremely misleading and fraudulent. I was under the impression that I would at least get a hint at what might be a problem instead of you folks making me wait to get a money for something answer that you could have displayed on your main page. Places like yours have no place on the internet and I'm going to find out what I can do to report you.

Thank's for nothing

Monitor suddenly goes black

Is this monitor and LCD flat Panel? If so this is due to a bad power supply, an inverter board going bad or LCD backlight bulb blown. When the backlight goes bad it gets just enough power to start up, but when it is on for a long period of time it goes black because the bulb is not stable enough to hold the charge because it is going bad. These bulbs can be changed, but they also can be costly!

Screen goes black and power light goes out after a few minutes

it would seem that one of the internal components has failed / overheated Dont open the rear of the monitor !

if pos drop it into your nearest pc repair shop and have is serviced it may just need cleaned to free it from dust build up
on the inner parts this may be causing the unit to over heat
