I have been trying several ways to fix my mp3 player. It doesn't work.

    I have tried:

    1) downloading e200fw01.00.12 and follw the instructions

    2) I download the sansa updater didn't work.

    3) I did tried the download files. I didn't work.

    Is there other option.

    Thanks,

    FRATIJA

    refresh database

  • Anonymous Feb 18, 2008

My Sansa Rhapsody e250r does not start since about 4 months... I haven't been able to find a solution to this problem, other than sending it back...
I think it's the same problem:
When I plugged it to add music, it asked me to run some Firmware Update and I accepted it
I "updated" my Sansa and it never worked again!
Whenever I turn it on, I keep getting the same message: "Load main image failed" "Switch to Recovery mode" and when I do so, it says "Enter USB2.0 mode"
I have no idea how to do that, given that I can't access the main menu
I have also tried downloading the firmware athttp://www.sandisk.com/Assets/File/Downl...
and followed the (apparently famous) 7 steps and nothing! Everytime I do the whole "firmware update" thing, it just seems to take no time at all. The player screen shows a bunch of things that the Sansa is suppossed to be doing, but it just doesn't seem to do anything at all.
I repeated that process for about 20 times...
Does anyone have a different solution to this?? Other than sending the bloody device back to where I bought it???

If you do, please let me know!!!
    my email is [email protected]

    thank you very much!

    Hi all
I'm posting this message to get the solution for my Sansa E250 which I brought 1 year back. Few weeks back I unplugged my Sansa after copying some songs and I started it and it keep on going starting for ever. I mean when I press power on button it starts with nice Sandisk logo and the display stats fading and agian it goes back to same Sandisk logo and on and on..... It never shows any of the menu. I tried the below procedure to update my firmware from this Forum but it did not helped me at all.

Following is the procedure I followed to update my firmware
    This Should fix it!
Thank you for contacting SanDisk Technical Support.
We should be able to fix your player. Disconnect the player from the computer if it is connected.
Please copy and paste the following link into your web browser address bar, and then click Go or hit your Enter key. When prompted, choose the option to Save the file to your Desktop.

    http://www.sandisk.com/Assets/File/Downl...

Once you have downloaded the file, please follow these instructions.
    1) Double click on My Computer so that you can see it on your screen.
    2) Turn the player off.
    3) On the top of the player is a Hold switch, move it to the right (toward the headphone jack) so you see Orange.
    4) On the left hand side of the player is a Record button, press and hold it while connecting the player to the computer. Continue holding the Record button until you see a new icon under My Computer called 16MB FORMAT. Once you see that icon you may release the Record button.
    5) Double click the file you downloaded earlier and run it. Follow all of the on-screen instructions, and when you get to the prompt where it asks you whether you would like to Format it, choose Yes. Once it is done, click Finish.
    6) Disconnect the player and look at the screen. Several things will be displayed, and when you see Key Lock, System Shutdown, move the Hold switch on the top back to the left.
    7) Turn the player on and watch the screen. If you see a Refresh Database Fail error, you will need to follow steps 1-7 again until you do not get the error. If it does not work the first time, it could take up to 3 times for it to work.

I'm really furtrated with my sansa now and I desperately need some sort of answer from this forum to solve my issue. I will never buy sansa near future if I could not solve this issue. Hoping for answer for tech gurus who are already had this problem and solved

    Thanks for helping mee

I have had a similar issue with my Sansa E270 player in the last couple of years. Sometimes when loading files, the transfer would lock up. When the power was cycled on the unit, it would freeze on the "Refreshing Database" screen. To fix this involved the following steps...Of course it involves formatting the folders containing the stored music.
1) Ensure the USB cable is connected between the computer and the player.
2) Turn the player off by pressing and holding the power button for at least 10 seconds.
3) Slide the top slider switch to the "Hold" position.
4) Press and hold in the record switch (on the side), while pressing and releasing the power switch to turn it back on
5) The display should say...."USB mode V2.0 in MSD"...or something like that.
6) The computer will detect the device as a 16Mbyte Sansa drive. Using Windows Explorer (right-click start button/explore), open the drive.
7) The Sansa drive should contain a .TXT file. In the same folder as the TXT file, create another folder named - sansa.fmt
8) Once the sansa.fmt folder has been created, unplug the USB cable and the player should automatically format.
9) Once formatted, communication is again possible.

Hi Kris, after having the same problem, i could (fortunately) solve it. There's a way to enter in boot mode (e200 series): 1. shut the power off and disconnect USB cable 2. change lock switch to orange position 3. Press and hold rec button (at left side) 4. while pressing the rec button, turn the player on 5. it will appear the boot menu. connect the USB cable and try to continue the firmware 6. if it doesn't work, do a firmware downgrade. download this file: http://www.sandisk.com/Assets/File/Downloads/firmware/e200fw01.00.12.exe 7. execute the application while in boot mode Note that the steps 6 and 7 will format all data in Sansa, but it's still better option than returning the player where you ordered from. Let me know if this solved your problem. For me it worked fine, but i got to format the unit. Good luck! Eduardo

I ran the software edukras suggested and it says "no valid device seems to be connected. Connect a valid device. WARNING: please connect device in MSC mode."

my device is plugged in in recovery mode but its not in MSC mode its in MTP. i cant change that obviously because of the original "refresh database" problem. how can i do this in MTP mode?

I loaded and installed Rockbox to my E280. The font was too small for me, so I uninstalled the Rockbox from my E280 and deleted all the remaining Rockbox files from my E280. Turned off and then on. The E280 went through the "long dragged" data refresh as usual. However, when I turn off and on again, the MP3 went to "play" mode without gone through the ever hated data refresh. . Somehow, the problem was fixed and I have no idea why. Anybody??? I am not recommending anybody go through what I have done unless someone can provide explanation. Am I just lucky???

Wowoweeeeee!!!
i got it!! i got it!!!
used this solution and it worked for me man.
I had the "Refresh Database" problem with my C250, it just sat there after turning it on! However, the GOOD NEWS is, I corrected it! First I connected it to my PC, then FORMATTED the unit. This gave me an empty player that at least would turn on. Then I downloaded the Sansa "Updater" from the SanDisk website. After setting up the updater software, I connected the C250. It automatically checked for any new firmware, and loaded it into the player. After that I restarted the C250 and it again came up OK without any music loaded. The last thing I did was to load only 1.8 GB worth of music files. My take on the problem is that if you overload the memory, or interupt a file while loading, then the "datbase" function never gets done. I've had mine running for about a week now without problems! Hope it works for you too! <Good Luck> David

SanDisk Sansa e270 MP3 Player has only 79 songs and 3 GB used

You may have some corrupt data on the device.

It sometimes creates the wrong file allocation and gives you an incorrect representation of the free space.

Try formatting the device in My Computer to erase all of the information and start over.

My Computer>Device Name(e270)>Right Click and select FORMAT.

Best of Luck.

Refresh database SansaDisk e270

Sorry, no habla espanol. Run the recovery tool from the SanDisk website. Make sure you select "format" when prompted. http://www.sandisk.com/Assets/File/Downloads/firmware/e200fw01.00.12.exe You need to put the device into "recovery mode" before you run the tool. - Turn the device off (hold power for 20 seconds) - Slide the hold switch into "hold" position. - Press and hold the "record" button while connecting it to your computer. Keep holding the "record" button until you see the "new hardware found" on your computer. Then run the recovery tool. Select format when prompted. Best of Luck.
