The clean light flashing 7 times is an error code indicating an issue with the wash temperature. If the control does not detect a 4*F temperature rise in the main wash cycle, it will display the fault as the clean light flashing 7 times. There are several things that could cause the water not to heat, including the water being too hot coming in, an open door switch, or a faulty component in the heater circuit. The most common cause is the door switch not closing properly. This can be due to a loading issue or a latch issue. If upon visual inspection of the heating element no obvious defects are found, I would recommend resetting the control and running another cycle, paying close attention to door closure. If the light begins flashing again, you likely have a component failure. The heat circuit consists of several components including the element, control, door switch and tub thermostat(s). Reset the control by pressing teh following buttons within 5 seconds.

I know this has been a while but for future readers...
I had this same issue (clean blinks 7 times) but it was intermittent.
I played with the unit a while ago and it worked for a while.
Finally, the last time it happened I did the following:
- shut off the power
- remove the top-front-cover
- pulled out the circuit board (control-board)
- found a bad solder connection on the relay that controls the power to the heater (the connection was blackened by arcing).
- re-soldered the relay pin to the circuit board
- reassembled the unit
- powered it back on
It has been working great ever since.
I really don't like these one-of-a-kind fixes but maybe they had a bad process on this solder joint or something.
Anyway, I hope this may help someone.

Have this same problem with my Whirlpool DU1145XTBA. Found out that when you start the unit, it fills with water. If the water does not rise above the filter mesh in the bottom center of the unit then the pump doesn't have enough water to supply pressure to the upper sprayer. Had to replace the Flow Meter. It tells the unit how much water to supply to the unit.

This can be a common issue with some Whirlpool manufactured dishwashers. This information may help in your situation. The following link explains how you may be able to clear the blinking clean light problem:

Now, keep in mind all dish washers are not alike and have different panel options. If you do not have the same set up that I have mentioned, the tech sheet for your dishwasher will explain the touch pad functions. The tech sheet is located behind the lower toe panel under the door and lists the proper sequence of buttons to push for diagnostics and troubleshooting.
NOTE: Sometimes the tech sheet is located behind the inner door panel. You will need to remove the screws securing the inner panel to access it if this is the case. Make sure you turn off the main power breaker before doing so.
Sometimes this can be a momentary glitch in operation. However, if the problem keeps reoccuring the number of flashes is an indication of which circuit is causing your problem. Again, refer to your tech sheet to determine this.
If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you solve your problem.
