I have an 18" Patton floor fan for several years. Recently had construction in the house & fan is filthy, full of wood dust. Try as I might, I can't figure out how to remove the metal grate to clean the blades & grate. Any suggestions?
The grill is in two halves with the back half attached to the motor. The front with the round patton insignia removes easily by applying leverage with a screwdriver. There are eight spots (at least on mine) where it clips. Be sure to remove any disposable plastic fastener holding the two halves together. Its pretty easy.
Leverage with a screw driver. I had posted a similar problem but figured it out in the meantime.
On the side of the fan caging, notice the small feet that hook the two cages together? All you have to do is get one of those unhooked and you can unhook the rest easily. I used a screwdriver. I stareed with two screwdrivers which almost worked but ended up only using one to leverage the foot to disconnect the two sides and then popped open the rest.. Does that help?
We used a screwdriver for leverage to take the front grill off and to put it back on. Don't forget to take the plastic zip-ties off. We didn't have to remove the stand. Do NOT mess with any of the screws; they are for the motor. FYI, we used clorox wipes on the blades and back half of the grill to avoid getting water near the motor. They fit perfectly on the blades and if you let them sit for about a minute, the grime will come right off.
Hello, I think there are some screws secured to the back of the motor. Loosen them, and the grille will come right off!

i have the same problem. taking the screws off the back of a patton fan only releases the motor in to the grill cage. pain to get the motor back on, and the grill still doesn't come apart.
