I purchased another HDD new from newegg at the urging of the geek squad. I don't know if the firmware is exact but they said most likely they can clone it using acronos. They key is swapping out the old PCB for the new one (according to them). I need one more boot to recover the data. Does this sound feasible?

Hi,
There are two options you can try.
First is that if it's a physical damage then it would take you more time to recover your data from it.
I will guide you with the data recovery step.

download it accordingly.
Choose accordingly upon your drive partition may be its a fat or ntfs one.
run the software and it will scan the unreadable partition on the Hard-disk.
After that, run disk management and try to format the Hard-disk there.

Ok if you have a key fob remote disconnect the battery cables and wait 3-5minutes then reconnect them when the alarm sounds stop it with your remote if you have a combo/remote key and this doesn't work the battery in the key is dead replace it and try again doing the cables

My hp desktop says internal hard disk not found how do i reset my drive

First reset the CMOS. Check your motherboard specs for how to do this or remove the small round silver battery from the motherboard; wait 30 seconds and reinstall it. (It is a good idea to replace with a new battery.) This will reset the CMOS. Then reboot to see if HDD is detected. If not, go into the BIOS setup (repeatedly hit F10 at HP logo screen) and check to see if your hard drive is listed. You may have to set it to "on". If it is listed in BIOS, but not detected another drive (a bad one) could prevent it from being detected. If you have any removable or external drives attached to your computer, disconnect them. Reboot your computer to see if your HDD is detected. If not, open your case and disconnect the data cable from all drives except your primary hard drive. This includes the floppy, optical, zip, backup, or secondary hard drive(s). If your HDD is detected, reconnect each drives data cable one at a time rebooting between each. If after reconnecting a drive and rebooting, your HDD is not detected the last drive is a bad drive and preventing your HDD detection. I have found that sometimes a bad drive that is connected will let the HDD be detected then on later boots the HDD will not be detected. Also it is possible that your BIOS is corrupted. Let's hope not. Another possibility is a bad motherboard. I hope this helps you.

I dont know exactly how to explain the problem its just when i start the machine its sais backup your files(which i already did) and then start hdd self test in f10 setup,but when i try to do that its said...

It seems that Windows has detected a mechanical failure of the hard drive and is suggesting that you backup to other media prior to catastrophic failure. I suggest that you back up immediately, and if under warranty have the hard drive replaced by the manufacturer.

Generally an indication that the Hard Drive isn't detected
Things to check, go to BIOS F2, reset defaults and reboot, see if the HDD is seen. If it is, the battery on the motherboard is likely dead and needs replacement (Watch battery at Walmart, 3 dollars)
If the HDD doesn't detect after resetting the BIOS, then most likely a Hard Drive failure

When I turn the laptop on (L350) the screen starts with the "Toshiba leading innovation" page then is blank- dark grey. It does not respond to any keys including F2/F12

The laptop can not detect the hard drive please remove the hard drive and then reseat it if the problem persist then replace the hard drive.

Stop: d0000144 unknown hard error

This is the sign of your HDD failing, the SMART error is the harddrives built in diagnostic telling you it's on it's last legs.

The stop error is likely just caused by some of your cache file being located on a failing part of the drive.

If you still can back up your data quickly, if you can't and need data off the drive it may be time to send it to a pro. Either way the new error is just an escalation of the HDD failure and will likely only get worse.

Forget the master password for HDD ACER3680

Sounds like your hard drive is about to pack up. You can disable SMART for your hard drive in your CMOS setup. which will allow you to boot up your pc. I suggest you back-up all your data as soon as possible before the hard drive fails completely.
