Sounds like its time to replace the projection lamp. While your at it,make sure to clean any dust from around the cooling fan,and make sure the fan is working.

I have a sony 52 inch rear projection tv in front panel a red light flashes 5 times and the screen goes black but i still have sound i put a fan behind the tv and now it seems fine no red light no black...

Check the internal fan on the TV. when you turn the set off the fan should still run. Get a couple cans of "dust off". The rear of the set is easy to pop off. Pull the power to the set and let it set for a couple hours, then clean out the back of the set with dust off. the fan comes out easy with 4 screws. clean it off and put it back together. should be ok. If you still have an issue, post a comment and I can help you further.

It is critical thet you replace the cooling fans! The imagers will be damaged if you don't. The focus issue is possibly contaminated a lens, dust or vapour.

Powers on and image or no image ? makes a difference. honestly these tvs are prone to many problems that even a trained tech. would have difficulty solving. best to find a reputable company.

The picture wont appear, i get sound but the fan seems to be having trouble and th picture wont appear

A bad fan will keep the machine from producing an image but I suspect it is a bad color wheel. When color wheel fails, you may hear a high pitched whine and no image. No image can also be caused by a burned out lamp, bad ballast or power supply board. You can call 1-800-samsung to find the nearest service center.

Lamp comes on, fan running at a very high speed

if the lamp is on and no image, you have a main board issue. you'll need to replace it.

Hear a whirling sound within a few seconds of tv image coming up - continues while watching and winds down when the set is turned off (fan?)

It could be the color wheel in the TV that you are hearing. There is a color wheel that spins in order for you TV to display colors and if it is struggling to stay at the right speed, it could cause the sound that you are hearing.

The fans also make some sound as when they spin and will remain on for a few minutes after the TV is turned off in order to cool the TV.
