Dyson DC16 keeps quitting.

Does red "charge status" lights pulsate when it quits?
If so the problem is with the filter. Access the main air filter (usually blue with white filter) , remove filter and note a small cylindrical metal insert -- this a magnet that is sensed to "insure" that the filter is in place before using. Fix: 1) try bending the filter so magnet makes better contact with sensor (sensor is buried in the plastic); 2) (this one worked for me) wad up some paper and carefully place behind just that part of filter to force the filter closer to the sensor -- this will require some patience but it can be done.

My dyson shuts off after just a few seconds of run time.

Make sure the charger is operating. Then if it is, look at a failed battery.

Red light flashing constantly on dc16 when on charge, used to just stay permantly red without flashing until it went green when charged up.

I had a similar problem when I bought an after market 2Ah battery. Would stay solid red for a few seconds then flash red. I believe my problem was that the battery had gone into "sleep mode" I.e. it was discharged to the point that it "sleeps" in order to protect itself. So......I simply attached a domestic DC multi adapter to the terminals on the battery that are marked + and - (the 2 outside terminals on a DC16 Dyson battery). Switched on the DC adapter for around 10mins and this was enough to "wake" the battery. It now charges as normal attached to the DC16 in the Dyson charge mount.

For a pretty in depth article on lithium battery sleep have a look at this:

I got a Dyson DC16 handheld cordless. Nothing happens when I press the trigger. When I take the canister off, I try and move the black "fan" thing but it won't budge. Should It move? How do I get the motor...

hi you have to take all the switch to bits which allows the cable to be free so you can get the motor out which is still tricky but i dont think this is the problem i think this dyson is a bad design its got printed circuits in that could be the problem i think mr dyson want to go back to the drawing room with this one. p.s ive got two they start up when they feel like it.

My DC 16 will only run for a second each trigger pull. The battery is fully charged, it has plenty of suction, just wont run for more than a second. I cleaned the filters.

I had the same problem with my Dyson DC16, where it only runs for a few seconds at a time with each trigger pull. My husband called Dyson (Canada) and without hassle they shipped us a replacement part which I just received this morning. The replacement part sent to us is: DC16 Main Body with Rating Plate. It is also under warranty for 1 year. The great customer service makes up for the flaw in the machine. Also, Dyson is aware of the problem. Hope this helps.

I have a dyson hand held that shuts off after just a few seconds of run time. we keep it charged but to no avail. Can someone suggest a solution.

yeap..... i just found a fix for this ,, its mad how easy it is to fix as well...and it works 100%,,,
now dyson implemented a filter magnetic switch if u take your filter off you will see a small magnet in the corner,, u will notice where the magnet is behind it is rased platic,, now,,that the problem on the main board the transistor that picks up magentic signal from the filter is dud,!
dont ask me why it happens,, its a pain i know.,.
now take off collection pot for dust now take battery off.

now where the serial number is theres 2 hex screws that need taking out..

now u will see a small pcb board.. remove with one tiny security screw holding it in,, once removed pull both red plug off thats the digital motor plug.. and white plug which is vcc..to battery,, once u have done this pull the board down and back gently. as there is a long bit of board that goes up the back of the dyson plastic be very carefull pull this out.. now the long and thin pcb board that is hidden is what we need there is a tiny transistor,,, we need to remove this carefully..once removed,, we solder a thin wire from 2 point A+C need to be soldered together with a thin piece of wire, it will not harm the motor.. as long as u keep it clean,,

these points corolate to the transistor,,

A

B C

SOLDER AND A+C WITH A FINE PIECE OF WIRE NOW,, AND WALLAH... fixed put it all back together again,,, charge the battery,, and your away,,, working again,, if not u have other faults.. but 99% fix this with flashing red led,,,!!
