I have the same problem with my KP-57WS500. This just recently started
and it is still under the extended warranty. Curved Blue lines, a
slight blueish tint in the blacks. Is this a warranty issue or is this
an adjustment that I can do? Thanks much! oneklassy1

While my Sony KP57WS500 was still under warrantee, a serviceman came and fixed my blue line problem, but it quickly returned. What can I do? Now, though, I have a bigger problem. My tv screen is flashing green, then the colors fade, and the tv turns itself off. Wondering if it is just the lamp, or do I need a new tv?

    WOW!!! Incredible Fix

I had the same problems with Horizontal Blue lines on my 51" Sony Projection HDTV for close to 3 years. It's 5 years old now and was considering donating it after reading new tubes would cost more then a new TV. Luckily I read this and followed the simple instructions. I had to adjust not just the blue, but red and green as well twice. Then did a convergance self adjust, and the results were amazing. Just a flat head and phillips screwdriver, a little tweak, and my $2900 TV is like new again. Do this, it is very simple! Also, avoid magnetized tools as you will be within inches of the tubes themselves

  • callthefoul Sep 03, 2008

When I turn on my set and it has a black background because the picture has not come on yet I get the blue lines in the black background. Now after a year of the blue wavey lines I am getting the picture to have wavey lines as well. You will see three different colors in a face on the screen.

  • CALOIS1 Sep 13, 2008

I HAD THE BLUE LINES WHEN THE BACKGROUND WAS DARK, BUT TODAY THE TV WENT ALL BLUE AND THEN SHUT OFF AND THE LITTLE RED LIGHT IS FLASHING. IS IT WORTH FIXING OR CHEAPER TO GET NEW TV?

    THANKS

i purchased my new sony bravia KDL46z4100 on 11/18 from Sears.
on the left hand side of the screen about 4 inches from the border, a 5 inch
    navy blue vertical line

I had the same problem with my sony KP-57ws500 rear projection tv. To solve this problem all you need is a flat and phillips screwdriver. Right below your speakers on the right and left side are tabs. Pull out the tabs and remove the screw on eachside. Once that is done remove the speaker cover and you will see a fiber board cover in the middle of the tv, there will most likley be twist ties holding some wires, to make it easier to work remove the ties. Now remove the screws on the fiber board and pull it off. You should see 3 adjustments on the top for focus, do not touch those. Below the focus adjustments on the bottom is the blue, red, and green adjustments (they should be labled). All you have to do is turn adjustment screw slightly to the left(or counter clockwise) and it should clear right up. I'm not a technician but i read up on it in a repair manual and it worked perfectly and saved me a $100.00 for a service call. It took about 10 minutes to do. I also have a friend who expiernced the same problem with a different model sony projection tv and it worked for his also. Apparently this is a common adjustment that needs to be made espicially if the tv is moved.

I was having this problem with blue. I was able to fix it, and now my tv works again. I think I have to adjust the colors a little more, though. Thanks for posting this!! For those having trouble removing a different front panel, here is what I found on mine -

I own a KP57WV600. Removing the front panel is a little trickier on this model. You remove the 6-8 screws on each side behind the two speakers. You will access these from the lower rear/sides of the TV. Remove the small 2ft plastic pieces. Now from the front of the machine grab the entire lower piece (speaker covers & power/volume/chanel buttons) from the bottom and pull down and towards yourself. There are 4 slots that this piece fits into. I had to take off the lower back panel to see why it wouldn't come out. Don't pull to far because this lower front piece is connected to wires. I'd say you have about a foot of play. Now you can remove the fiber board panel and access the blue/green/red lower screws. When you adjust these, go a fraction of a milimeter at a time.

HI I'm a 14 year old kid from Florida. You have no idea how much this helped me. We recently got a kp-65wv600 from a person giving it away because it didn't work and it turned out to have the "Wavy Blue Lines of Death." I did exactly what you said and the tv looks amazing. Thanks for everything you just save me $3228 + the $100 from the annoying repair people who don't tell you a thing. You have no idea how happy I am

i remove all the screws to hold the front and lower front panel, and cannot get the lower front panel removed (afraid to break). Can anyone tell me how to remove the front lower panel (speaker area) for the KP-57WV600. Thank you.

Hello,
I just want to say thanks. This tip fixed me right up.
I got a 65in. KP-65WV600 from Craigs list today for free, and it had a major blue shade over everything and also some lines arching around the screen. Just a little turn to the left of the blue knob....BAMN!!! the color is great and the lines are gone and I have a great looking free TV.

Thank you so much fix ya!!!   YES the solution that was offered was EXTREMELY helpful.  Me and my husband found this TV in a pile of trash in front of the neighbor's house and decided to try and fix it.  The fix took 5 min at 1a.m. at home with 2 screw drivers.

Solution:  Far left screw is Blue turn counter clock wise
Far right screw is Red turn counter clock wise
Middle is green turn counter clock wise
only turn very slightly
don't touch very top focus screws
helps to have a handy husband!

I had these blue lines pop up about 3 years after I got my TV. A tech came out once, and adjusted it, but they came back about 6 months later. The second time they came out they replaced the picture tubes (service plans are good).

About 3 years later, the blue lines came back again. I fixed it myself this time, but who knows how long it'll be before they're back again. Here's what I did for my 57" Sony widescreen rear projection:

- Pop open the front bottom of the TV. There's a few screws on the side, facing rear, then there's 2 somewhat hidden screws under a couple of caps below the speakers on the front. The bottom panel slides out a few inches from the bottom, then down towards the floor. There are wires attached to this, but I was able to push it far enough aside to keep digging.

- Pop open the smaller panel in the middle (previously hidden by the panel you removed).

- There's a bank of 6 adjustment screws. On my TV, the 3 on the bottom controlled the horizontal arcing lines, blue on the left, green in the middle, and red on the right. Turning the bottom left one counter-clockwize got rid of the lines.....for now......

Great advice. The problem one on ours was the green adjustment. Sony has white paint on the adjustment screws. It may be helpful to mark the white with pencil to mark original settings.

Wow! I never thought it would be that easy. My KP-65WV600 has had the arcing blue lines for close to five months now. It was driving me nuts. I had planned to call a repair shop up, but decided to take a stab on the internet first. I took your advice and now things are back to normal. Thanks.

For this problem, what you have to do is here I found this solution: Right below your speakers on the right and left side are tabs. Pull out the tabs and remove the screw on eachside. Once that is done remove the speaker cover and you will see a fiber board cover in the middle of the tv, there will most likley be twist ties holding some wires, to make it easier to work remove the ties. Below the focus adjustments on the bottom is the blue, red, and green adjustments (they should be labeled). All you have to do is turn adjustment screw slightly to the left(or counter clockwise) and it should clear right up. That should do the trick, Hope this is helpful. Please dont forget your rating.

Curved blue lines on screen.

You have a completely different problem. The screen voltage for the blue picture tube is slightly too high on your set. This will put fine lines in the background of the picture, called retrace lines. This is very common and easy to correct. Remove the front speaker cover and the access panel behind it. Look inside and you will see a black box with six controls, each control having a little white glue on it. This is the Focus/Screen block. Three controls are labeled Focus and three are labeled Screen. The screen control in the center is for green but I am not sure if the screen control on the left or right is for blue for your model. With the TV on, set it to VIDEO 1 but do not connect anything to the VIDEO 1 jacks. This will produce a pure dark picture, showing any faint lines in the background. Choose one of the screen controls and increase (turn clockwise) it slightly. If the blue lines do not get brighter it means you are turning the red screen control, so put it back where it was and choose the other screen control. When you find the blue screen control, decrease (turn counter-clockwise) it until just when the blue lines are gone. If you want you can check that the red and green screen controls are set to just below the point where their faint lines are visible. When done, replace the panels and your picture will be back to perfect.

I got this TV for FREE from a guy posting it on craigslist because he saw "BLUE SWIRL LINES" also knows as "Retrace Line" on the screen and he went to several repair people and got high repair costs so he was giving it away for free, but i found a guide that tells you how to adjust the tv to make the blue or green or red lines go away, aparantly the line show up because the voltage on the color ray gun tubes that get out of adjustment. Guys I did this myself real easy. Just don't turn the corresponding screw too far. Only need to adjust it until the lines go away. Do it on a darker screen so the lines are more visible. I did the red 2 years ago and the green 6months before that. The blue lines are coming on my screen now and I've fixed it in 10 minutes. The TV is amazing.
