Sounds like its main baord [digital processor side] circuit has damaged. In most cases, the board might have to be replaced, as there is no repair possible to this board. To get some details, http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ Pull up older posts.

I suspect you have a poor contact on the video processor board or the upscaler itself on the screen.
Check all ribbon connectors and look for any components that have got very hot, there may be a dry solder joint beneath them.

I would take it to a repair shop, but it sounds like somewhere in the power board.

I have seen similar effects like this & it is usually due to a flaw in the screen. A replacement screen is the only cure.

Most likely what happened is one of the capacitors went bad. When a capacitors goes bad it produces a popping sound. This could be an easy and cheap fix if you find the bad capacitor or capacitors. The bad capacitor will have a bulging top most likely on the power board but could be anywhere.
