Problem with Maxtor 1000GB harddrive PN:9NZ2D8-500. SN:2HBECHWY My Maxtor 1000GB hard drive has stopped working. PN:9NZ2D8-500. SN:2HBECHWY. It connects by a USB and powered by a transformer that was supplied by Maxtor. All of the parts are about two years old, brought from new. Any ideas what I can do. Thank you

Best is to take it to the shop you bought it from. they will replace it. ask them to transfer the data to the new one. the chances are they might do it.
SOURCE: Restore factory settings on maxtor basics external storage 1000gb
What do you mean by factory settings. From the factory, the drive came just formatted with no data on it. If you want that then format the drive in WIndows. My Computer->Select the drive that is Maxtor, right click it and in the box that opens format is one of the options. Select and follow instructions.

Check the USB port and/or the cable, check if windows can detect your device. If windows can detect but can't read data perform a format or delete the partition and then use any file or partition recovery software you want to use. They will automatically rebuild partition table and MBR according to your need. If windows can't detect, unplug your device, uninstall the driver from the device manager, restart your pc, plug your device again and see windows will automatically install the device.
