Turn off your antivirus before you try to revert back to xp. your system antivirus might see this as an attack on your windows 7,thus it won't allow you to install a different system.

SOURCE: Blue screen corruption error

You might want to reseat your ram, Also See if you can get past the BSOD by hitting F8 and getting into Safe mode with Networking. Once there paste this into a Internet browser: http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols/debuggers/dbg_x86_6.8.4.0.msi

Once downloaded and installed, click on
File>Symbol File Path > type "SRV*c:\debug_symbols*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols" and click OK. (nothing will happen)
File>Open Crash Dump>browse to c:\windows\minidump and select the file with the latest date. They are named in the mmddyy sequence.
Once the file is open wait and click on an option "!Analyze-V"
Then look for module name. This is the file causing the error.

Though lengthy, if done right this will certainly fix your issue.

SOURCE: FUNCTION KEYS ON DELL INSPIRON 8000 DON'T WORK AFTER INSTALLING W

Hello,
There is no driver required to use the function keys. You just need to use the function (fn) like a shift key. Hold the function (fn) key and then press the according function key.

SOURCE: black blob on screen of new dell inspiron mini 9

you my friend have a brokem lcd screen. meaning there is a crack in the screen allowing liquid to leak out into a massive blob. Funny thing is the rest of the screen can appear fine in some cases. but take it to a local repair shop and have them order and replace the screen for you. Or better yet, if you just took it out of the box, take it back to the store, and exchange it.

How do i restore factory settings on my dell inspiron mini 1018

This is quite easy to do, when your turn on your computer you need to hit a hotkey over and over again. The hotkey is different for each type of laptop but the common ones are f11, f1, f2, alt+0 and f12.
Once you reach the recovery screen you just need to follow the on screen prompts and you're all set
WARNING: Doing this will mean that you will lose all your personal data and installed programs that are on the computer.

Dell Inspiron mini 10. The system will not boot up, after the Dell logo screen and blue bar goes away, the screen is blank and the curser is flashing in the upper left corner of the screen. F11 isn't...

That cursor indicated that the BIOS can't find an Windows installed on the hdd. Since even the recovery partition appears to be inaccessible the only thing left is to reinstall it using the recovery cd that should have come with it when you bought it If you don't have it you can order it from Dell.

My inspiron 1018 won't boot. i need to reinstall or repair my software. it does not have a cd drive. please advice action.

The Dell Inspiron Mini 10 series of netbooks come with recovery software that can restore your netbook's original factory settings. Dell Inspiron Mini 10 netbooks with Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 can be recovered to the factory settings using a recovery partition on the hard drive.
Windows Vista or 7
Turn on or restart your Dell Inspiron Mini 10 netbook. Press the "F8" key repeatedly when the "Dell" logo appears on the screen to be redirected to the "Advanced Boot Options" menu.
Highlight "Repair Your Computer," and then press "Enter."
Highlight the language layout you want to use for your keyboard and click "Next." Enter your username and password if prompted. Click "OK."
Click "Dell Factory Image Restore," and then click "Next." The recovery software on some Dell Mini systems may require you to click "Dell Factory Tools" followed by "Dell Factory Image Restore" and "Next."
Click "Next" if you understand the netbook will be restored to its original factory settings. The recovery process will begin.
Click "Finish" when a message appears saying the recovery is complete. The netbook will restart and boot up to the Windows Vista or Windows 7 set-up screen, where you can begin personalizing your netbook.

Windows XP Recovery
Turn on the computer. Press the "Ctrl" and "F11" keys at the same time while the computer is booting up to access the recovery software.
Click "Restore."
Click "Confirm" to begin the recovery process, which shouldn't take longer than 10 minutes.
Click "Finish" to restart the computer and finalize the installation. Click "Yes" to restart the netbook again. The computer will boot up to the Windows XP setup screen

Here is a link which will take you to the site which will allow you to download a ZIP file with a WEB PAGE type service manual for your 1018, after a 45 second wait. (They want you to sign up for premium service but NOT NEEDED) Click again after wait?
After download, open the ZIP file and copy all contents to a new folder. Double click the Contents.html file to open in a web browser, then use the built in shortcuts to navigate the manual.

Bought new hard drive for mini 1012 dell bios sees new hard drive but when i try to install windows xp , xp says no mass storage device detected.

In the bios change the drive options to anything but AHCI if possible. You will need a windows xp driver and USB floppy disk to install the AHCI or SSD driver. It's also referred to as an F6 Floppy. Dell should have the download you need.

7 beep error message for dell inspiron mini 1018

For the Dell Inspiron Mini 1012 Netbook, 7 beeps indicates bad memory (system RAM). The memory will need to be replaced.
The RAM can be replaced using a small Phillips screwdriver and removing the back-plate on the bottom of the laptop. When you see the memory (sticks around 3 inches long), pull those out and put new ones in. Make sure it's the correct DDR2 memory.
Good luck!
