My Weller WMRP soldering pencil has become intermitent, is ther any way to open and look for broken solderings in it?

At times, including when soldering, the temperature starts droping and i need to turn off the unit or unplug the tip from the wire and star working again. I supect is the cable from the WD1 unit to the pencil. The pencil seams to be sealed, but in some way it was assembled so probably is a way to disassembe it to check for intemitent unions. Any hint will be apprecited.

It happens with all my three tips, and is related to the internal switch inside the pencil.
I suppose this can be open with a long screw driver but I will no attempt to fix it until I get the new pencil. Thanks any way

The problem is caused by the ceramic heating element built into the iron, it becomes intermittent over time and cannot be accessed.

Is there good operating instructions, or manual for Weller 8200 N 100/140 watts gun?

There are normally three of the same type. They are consumable, you don't need to stock all the different types - just buy the one you need for your current project.

Note, these are high power and were commonly used for soldering wires in the point-to-point wiring used in old tube electronics. Do not use this on a Printed circuit board - it will damage any silicon component.

Use a a soldering pencil for printed circuit boards.

When i plug it in it goes to 902 degress but does not get hot and when i turn the heat down it goes up to 902

I had the same problem with mine. Try pushing or twisting the cord entering the soldering iron pencil. The temperature sensor can become disconnected if the cord gets twisted.

Weller WMRP soldering iron faling prematurely.

I suggest that you set the "Auto Time Off" much longer or turn it off by setting it to 0, and use a standby of 400 degrees after 10 minutes instead.

The reason is that every time this soldering iron has to turn on, it's trying to heat up in about 5-10 seconds. When it does that, it applies full wattage to the heating element, and putting full wattage on them a lot of times is what's burning them out. If the soldering iron maintains the same temperature while not soldering, it only uses 20-30% of the full wattage to keep it at the set temp. This isn't nearly as hard on the heating element.
