I have a toshiba satellite L645D how can I format it to the factory settings like it just came out of the box.

When your Toshiba Satellite laptop goes on the fritz, there are several instances where the best solution is to delete everything and start over. If your system frequently crashes or you can't remove a specific virus, you may want to restore the laptop back to original factory settings. While the easiest way to restore the system is to use the operating system restore disc, it is possible to restore the system without it. Each Satellite laptop also includes a hard drive recovery utility that lets you restore the operating system without the restore disc.

1.Take account of any files or programs you still want to use after the Toshiba laptop is restored back to its factory settings. Transfer the files to a backup location, such as a USB flash drive or external hard drive.

2.Restart the Toshiba Satellite laptop's operating system. Wait for the Toshiba logo to appear on the screen.

3.Press the key that brings up the hard drive disk utility menu. Depending on the specific model of your Toshiba Satellite laptop, the key will either be "0," "F1," or "F8."

4.Press "1" or click "Restore Original Factory Image." Click "Yes." Select "Next" to begin the restoration process.

5.Restart the Toshiba laptop computer when the restoration process finishes running. Follow the prompts that appear on the screen to set up the laptop's date, time and language settings.

6.Transfer the backup copies of the data you saved earlier back to the Toshiba's hard drive. Re-install any programs you need, such as your software firewall or anti-virus tool.

My daughters computer would not really work except in safe mode. She has a Toshiba Satellite laptop (L450 series). I didn't have any restore disks so I went through the Toshiba Recovery Wizard to...

You very likely have a failing hard drive. Since the recovery system is also located on the same drive, you will have to obtain a new drive from toshiba with the recovery system on it or obtain a complete recovery set of dvd's. Since the system is not under warranty, then you could probably save some money by obtaining a suitable replacement (larger) hard drive from a reputable online source (like newegg.com) and then reinstall everything from the recovery set of DVD's you get from Toshiba. Recovery set should only cost about $30 or less. A new drive will run about $50 and up. The drive is actually pretty simple to replace. Since you will be replacing the drive, you should try and copy the important files (pics, music, etc) to a portable drive (hard drive, usb flash drive, etc.)

Here is a link to see what is involved in accessing your hard drive:

How doI reset my Toshiba Laptop with Vista 64 bit to factory settings?

There are two ways to reset your Toshiba Laptop to factory settings.
First is using Recovery Media Disc and the second is the hidden partition on your hard drive.

If you're going to use Recovery Media Disc follow these steps:

If you have two or more recovery media disc try to insert first the disc that has a label of 1 of 2 or 1 of 3. Then turn of your laptop.
Make sure that the disc is inside. After that try to find the letter "C" key on your keyboard. Now turn on your laptop and keep tapping the letter "C" key. If you have successfully accessed the Boot Menu choose Toshiba Recovery Wizard.
After choosing the Toshiba Recovery Wizard there will be a big warning screen that will appear choose the option yes and after that you will have a series of option. Remember to choose always the first option after the big warning screen appears.

That's it. You will have a message that the Windows is initializing files.
That process will take 1-2 hours for it to finish.

Hidden Partition on the Hard Drive.

Turn on the laptop and as soon as the laptop turns on press and hold down the number 0 key (the number 0 it should be on the top of the keyboard beside the number 9 key) keep 0 pressed until Toshiba leading innovation appears. Usually you will have a beeping sound when you are trying to access the System Recovery of the Hard Drive. That's an indication that you have successfully accessed the Systrem Recovery of the laptop.
Wait for the screen that say Windows is loading files.
After that you will see a big warning screen the choose yes and
Choose 1st option always.
Cx able to initialize the partition.
Disconnect cables and turn off the wireless switch.
Recovery would take 1-2 hours for it to finish.
