SOURCE: put rinse liquid detergent in dishwasher rinse aid compartment.

I did the same thing with my Maytag dishwasher, several times actually, before realizing I was putting blue dish soap in the rinse aid compartment which then wouldn't empty. Then my Maytag started making ominous noises during the rinse cycle (appliance guy said it was "cavitation" noise).

Appliance guy wanted to replace the whole detergent/rinse aid compartment but since he told me the noise was probably caused by the dish soap stuck in the rinse aid compartment, I decided to try to get rid of it first. Here is the method that worked for me; it took most of a day but saved me parts & labor:

1. Get some white vinegar--I used nearly a quart.
2. Fill the rinse aid compartment to brim with the vinegar (overfill) but don't put cap on
3. Raise the dishwasher door slowly until the vinegar drains into the lower part of the chamber (at least this is how my Maytag worked)
4. Agitate the contents as best you can by rapidly shaking the dishwasher door up & down.
5. I also used a small plastic medicine dropper jammed into small openings on each side of the rinse aid compartment to agitate the vinegar by squeezing air into them.
6. Drain the compartment by closing the dishwasher door (move it to full vertical)--vinegar will drain into the bottom of the dishwasher.
7. Repeat above steps a couple times, then fill again w/vinegar, put the cap on and let it stand for awhile. Then drain and repeat the whole routine several times.
8. Blue-colored vinegar will come out which is a good sign (or whatever color your dish soap was).
9. After awhile, I started pouring generous amts of very hot tap water thru the rinse aid compartment, alternating with white vinegar. (No reason you can't use hot vinegar also.)
10. Eventually, all the blue stuff came out & the see-thru levels of the rinse aid compartment were completely clear/empty.
11. Run the dishwasher (I decided to not put any rinse aid in). I got some overfoaming (from the washed out soap) the first time I ran it which I probably could have remedied by adding more vinegar & possibly salt, but the noises were gone!
I just ran the cleaned out dishwasher a 2nd time & it was back to its quiet self with no overfoaming.

Takes some patience but hey, beats a big repair bill!!

I put the rinse aid, but it does not show on the indicator that there is rinse aid

Please try these steps.
  1. Open the door completely and remove the rinse aid cap by turning it counterclockwise.
  2. Add the liquid rinse aid into the dispenser (until the rinse aid level reaches the full mark.)
  3. Close the rinse aid cap by rotating it clockwise.
  4. Set the rinse aid indicator dial to a number between 1 and 6. ...
  5. Replace the cover.

My rinse aid dispenser constantly needs filling. Just started to do this after 6 years

Hello. From what you describe, the detergent dispenser has become defective and needs to be replaced. Normally, if run daily, you should get a week's worth of washings before needing to fill the compartment. Make sure, if there is a setting dial(with an arrow) inside the rinse aid compartment, that the arrow should be at 2 1/2 to 3, give or take a little. You don't want too much rinse aid in the water as it can cause a severe foaming of the water which can trigger a drain error--the unit thinks its draining water when, in fact, its sensing foam and stays on too long. The main board senses this and triggers a shutdown for safety. Washing machines can experience this same phenomenon from too much detergent--its called a SUD error, for too much suds in the water.

How can I adjust the amount of rinse aid used in each load. I want to use rinse aid, but the indication suggests I haved used it all in two or three washes.

the dispenser should have a gauge of some sort where you add aid..maybe a dial w/arrow pointing to #1,2 or 3..the higher number you point arrow to the more quanity
it dispenses per cycle.

Hi, my Zanussi zdf511 doesnt seem to be adding any rinse aid on any of the rinse aid settings?

Rinse aid dispenser can receive a maximum level of 140 ml rinse agent. Consumption rinse agent could be per wash cycle of 2 to 7 ml depending on the settings.
Thus 140 ml is enough for 20-70 wash cycles, depending on the degree of adjustment.

What do the Tecnik dishwasher symbols mean? I have a unit not working with a warning light on I cant find in the manual.

The little star means you've run out of rinse-aid. See the flap that's next to your tablet dispenser, it has the same star on the lid, inside there you can refill the rinse-aid by pouring it into the tiny gap next to the dial! The dial setting allows you to change the flow of rinse-aid...the light will then go off. However, I've yet to find out what the light with the two directional arrows means! Ill post when I know!

Hi, I have an BOSH dishwasher SGV4313gb/17. It is about 8yrs old and has worked fine until last week when it did not complete its cycle. Have reset and it seems to complete cycle but I don't think it...

Are you using a rinse aid? if so and teh dishes are still not drying properly, try adjusting the setting for the rinse aid dispenser. Open the door of the dishwasher, open the flap where you pour in the rinse aid and look for the cirlce with the arrow and nunbers on it. If it is set low (1 or 2) try turning the arrow to a higher number. If that adjustment doesn't work, increase again and again until the dishes are dry.

Dishes are coming out streaked and not properly cleaned. I have added rinse aid, salt and even descaler.

De-scaler wont wash your dishes. The simplest cause of dishes coming out unclean is over-loading, bad stacking (spray arms blocked), or using too short a programme for heavily soiled dishes.

If it's just streaky (not food remnants), you may have the rinse-aid set too low. Open the flap where you add rinse-aid and you will see a know with an arrow shaped grip. There are 5 positions for the knob marked 1 to 5. Try a higher setting (1 is low) but don't go too high as this will cause other problems. If it's on 1, try 3 and if it's on 2 or 3, try 4 or 5. You may have to adjust this a couple of times until you get satisfactory results.

Howver, If you're referring to a white powdery residue on dishes and glasses, that's an entirely different answer . . .

How much rinse aid do I put in my dishwasher and how do I use the arrow within the rinse aid dispenser in the machine.

The dispenser will take about 6 oz of rinse aid if completely empty. It will only need filled every couple months depending on how often you do dishes.

If you are getting poor drying performance or spotting use a rinse aid that is called 'Turbo Dry'.

The arrow is how much rinse will dispense each load. Start out near the center, if you see spotting or turn it up slightly and try another load.

Rinse aid light

First check in the dispenser is a knob that has an arrow on it see where this points it should only have to be set on one or two normally any higher and you will use more rinse aid if it is on one or two then get a tech to check it it may need to be replaced
