Toshiba 72HM195 Red Horizontal Line Over Picture
Watching a movie the other night a red (horizontal) streak started across the screen. To make sure where it was coming from, I disconnected the Blu-Ray player from the television, while nothing else was connected to the TV, I turned it back on and the red streaks where still there. I had another (new) lamp which I installed but it made (no) difference. These red (horizontal) streaks seems to appear more when there is brighter white areas next to dark areas.
Also during some instances, it looks as if it is a pink/redish hue over the strongly lit portions of the picture other times during darker scenes the picture color is normal looking. The red streaks will be, sometimes, very small (not all the way across) other times all the way across and even full screen or multiples of 3 to 10 bars more or less. The picture is still there but when these red streaks exist they seem to be flashing fairly fast (as a constant blinking of your eyes). When red is over full screen and in larger areas it looks as if the picture was shot in a red light danger zone type of scenes. Sometimes in shots where peoples faces are fairly close their flesh tone in the highlighted places has a light muddy color look instead of normal skin highlights. During a lot of scences there is NO red streaking what so ever and ALL colors look normal.
I took out the color wheel to give it a visual look see, cleaned the color wheel dust free and the wheel seemed to spin with the flick of a finger with NO noise or grinding.
Television is a Tosiba DLP 72HM195

Look through your manual. Your manual will always give you the most specific directions for your particular model. Look for an "adjusting convergence" or "set manual convergence" section.
Enter the menu on your TV. Use the remote control and bring up the menu.
Choose "Convergence." This may be under "Picture Settings," "Function" or "Advanced Options."
Select a color. You will have red, green and blue to choose from. Do each one, starting with red.
Press "Enter." A crosshair pattern will appear on your screen.
Adjust vertically. If there is a horizontal red line visible, press the up or down arrow keys (or channel up or down) to adjust the convergence until the line is superimposed on the horizontal-center line of the white crosshair.
Adjust horizontally. If there is a vertical red line visible, press left or right (or volume up or down) to adjust horizontally. Do this until the line is superimposed on the vertical line of the white crosshair.
Save settings. It is important to save your settings when you are done, instead of simply exiting the menu.
I disagree with given info, this tv has no horizontal output transistor because it is dlp tv. 3 red light blink means lamp cover is not placed back properly after lamp replacement/ lamp checking. Make sure lamp cover is fixed back in its place securely and tight.
If it shuts off and then the power light starts blinking red or it never comes on but the power light just blinks red continuously that is usually indicative of the convergence ICs (STK 392-110). You never want to replace the ICs without also replacing the resistors that are associated with them. There are usually 6 resistors, one for each of the colors and there corresponding direction, IE Red horizontal, red vertical, blue horizontal, ect. In the case of this model tv all of the resistors are 2.2 Ohm and 2watts. You will find them right where the STK 392-110 ICs are. Right in front of them. They are blue and have this color code on them. Red, red, gold, gold. These are represented by stripes on the resistors. You can get the parts from www.bdent.com They carry the ICs and the resistors. If you do not feel comfortable completing this repair I could do it for you if you send me the board. My email address is: [email protected] The cost is 375.00 and that includes parts. Good Luck.
