We just got a new battery, and a new charging cord but when I plugged it in it says its 'plugged in, not charging' ......... How do i get it to charge? should i just turn it off and leave it for a while so it does charge or will it just sit there still 'plugged in, not charging'
First, check to see there is no physical damage around the charging port, then if you have a AVO meter, check that the charging cord is actually putting out a current; then go to the BIOS and look inside. if you see
Adapter , Unknown device installed,
that is your answer - it isn't a Dell charger. Now go to https://www.dell.com/community/General/Dell-Inspiron-1525-new-battery-not-charging-in-BIOS-showing/m-p/4709466
If that message is not there
1. Ensure that the battery is securely in the laptop and that none of the pins on the computer or battery are dirty.
2. Consider that there was nothing wrong with the old battery but the circuit on the motherboard that controls the charging is faulty - there is usually one chip that is at fault in this case.
3. The new battery is completely discharged: does the battery show signs of life when used without the charging cable? If it does, this is not the problem
SOURCE: battery will not charge
I purchased a Genuine Dell Battery, It arrived dead with 1 test light on battery itself at 0% charged, It only lasted 2 mins before the laptop died running on battery, It doesn't charge the Dell battery at all The replacement battery only shows a 1% charge every 7 hours or so, nor do I have a yellow, green, orange light, The only time I get a light on the battery led is if i'm running on batteries and the battery level is below 10%, Its orange for low battery.
Thanks in advance to anyone who could help me.

You have a ground fault issue in the DC JACK.
There are escentially 4 circuits in the jack and one is not making contact.
1: Negative Charge circuit (outter ring)
2: Negative Run circuit (outter ring)
3 Positive (Inner Ring)
4: Signal (center pin)
I believe the negative charge circuit (outter ring) is not making contact internally. Typically what happens on that model DC Jack is the tension contact metal becomes fatigued, and does not touch the outter ring.
This could come from Heat causing early fatigue of the metal.
Or normal wear, the metal has simply worn out from regular insert/removal.

Tienes un problema con tu cargador el cual tiene un voltaje de referencia que no esta entregando,, y por eso no entra la carga de tu bateria.. la manera mas facil de resolver esto es cambiarlo . economico y barato seria esto,,

Go into the battery properties and check if the battery is charging. If it says it is, then test it, use the battery to see if it really is charging, they will sometimes give a false reading. If it's not charging, then check the power supply with an ohm meter for the proper output. If this all checks good, but the battery isn't charging, then I'm afraid you have a failed power management system on the motherboard. The power management system controls the charging along with other power related aspects of the machine. If the power management system has failed, then unfortunately, you will have to replace the motherboard in order to fix it.

when you installed the battery... did the tab move all the way back after you installed the battery.... you have to hold the tab in the open position while you install the battery.... after it is firmly seated release the tab and it should slide back in position. if it doesn't and the battery appears to be seated properly push the tab back into place.

Check your DC Power Jack which is where the power cord plugs
into the computer is bad. Take an ink pen and push the tip inside the
jack and see if the little pin wiggles, if so the jack is bad. You'll have to
take the laptop apart to fix it. Most times it is soldered onto the
motherboard, so you will have to desolder the old and solder a new one.
