Make sure there is no dust covering the computer fan. If necessary use the recovery CD or a new Windows XP CD.
SOURCE: Upgrade HP a1010n Motherboard
Techguru2009: When you upgrade your motherboard, basically you have a new computer. You need to know how your hard/cd drives are connected. Either IDE or SATA. IDE is legacy hardware 80 pin and SATA is the new Thing small connecter. Next is your RAM. There is Dimm, DDR1, DDR2. Find out what your old system was using, or just buy new memory cards, DDR2 is not that expensive. Ask for the manual first read and check what is required, take a list of what your old computer has. I can also help you install everything via chat.

It looks like a specific board for your system is over $200.

I strongly advise you to replace your old (VERY OLD!!) PC with new one. Do not worry, you will not lose any data from your old PC if you will take hard drive off your old PC and fix to new one. Anyway, if you still want to keep your old PC (NOT RECOMMENDED) you will have to buy new Power Supply and clean up your PC inside.
