CyberPower 525SL (CPS525SL) UPS System Logo
Posted on Oct 26, 2008

Cbyer power 525Sl keeps turning off and on and beeps.

When I turn on my UPS (Cyberpower 525SL) it turns on and then in a couple of seconds beeps and turns off again, then a second later it beejps again and turns on, then beeps and turns off. Does the battery need to be replaced or what?

Thanks, John

I have the exact same issue with my 525SL.
When you push in the red button - the green power light comes on for about 5 seconds = then the light goes out and the device plays a single long beep for about 5-8 seconds.

Given the dialogue here - I took out the battery and bough a brand new BB replacement battery and returned it into the unit as it should. The device continues to have the same behavior.

So it is NOT always a new battery that will fix the system.
Don't jump into spending $30.00 for a replacement.
Look into this further or you'll wind up wasting your money.

Hi there,

This sounds like a battery per the trouble shooting guide from Cyberpower. It's the most common issue and the batteries last 3-5 years. You can find a replacement at Battery International: http://www.batteryinternational.com/cyber-power-cps525sl-ups-battery-ups-batteries-f1.html

Had the identical problem. I replaced the battery and had the same fault. I held the power button down and unplugged the unit. It beeped a couple of times then stopped. I waited a couple of minutes and plugged it back in. I powered it up, it beeped a few times and then went normal. Appears to be working.

E-MAIL I RECEIVED FROM CYBERPOWER:

There is no other known cause of the cycling on/off behavior aside from a bad battery. IT is possible that some component of the battery relay or inverter has failed. If this is the case it would not be repairable outside of warranty.

If you go to http://www.apexbattery.com/b-b-bp7-12-battery-sealed-lead-acid-batteries-b-b-batteries.html for that battery it is six bucks cheaper than the above link, and a dollar less shipping.

Hi droger68,

The reason for the issue that you have right now with your Cyberpower 525SL is a bad battery. This means that some of the battery relay's component or relay has failed. You may contact the manufacturer if it's still under warranty. If not you may check this site they do have battery for your machine.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

It turns on then it starts going on and off it is only the three with battery and surge that won't work

may overload the ups. try to run it without any unit conected to it.
also possible is that inside batteries wont charge proper - replacement will help.

Battery side of UPS beeps on and off when turn on.

How old are your batteries? If they are over 3 years old it may be telling you that its time to get new batteries. You can check these using a voltmeter too to help determine if the batteries are the problem. You can find replacements at http://www.batteryinternational.com/ups-batteries.html

Unit does not back-up (stay on-line at all) when power goes out.

If the battery is over 3 years old then it most likely needs to be replaced. Since it works fine except for when it is relying on power from the battery, then a new battery should make it just like new. http://www.batteryinternational.com/ups-batteries.html should have the battery you need. Hope that helps.

Power keeps going on and off

I have the same problem.
It is most likely the battery.
I tested my battery on a Shumacher trickle charger, and the battery wouldn't hold a charge.
This is a common problem with UPS systems that use sealed lead acid batteries.
The longest life that you can expect with these types of batteries is 5 years MAX.
The battery can be replaced with a Radio Shack 12V/7200mAh Lead-Acid Battery
Model: CNB-GP1270F2 | Catalog #: 23-9030
Here is the link for the UPS users manual.
http://www.cyberpowersystems.com/user-manuals/CP550SL_UM.pdf
To replace battery, (unplug AC cord), turn the UPS upside down on floor or workbench.
Remove the 6 deeply recessed phillips screws, then pull the bottom off.
Remove the wire leads from the old battery (pull on the connectors, not the wires). Install new battery (red wire to red or + sign) and replace the bottom and screws. Careful, tighten the screws finger tight (plastic strips easily).
Plug in UPS and you should be good to go.
Hope this helps

CyberPower 525SL Failure

The erratic behavior and beeping could indicate that the Gel battery inside your UPS needs to be replaced, and is usually less expensive to replace than the entire UPS. You can remove the battery and contact a local or online source for a replacement. I replace mine through a local automotive battery supplier, and it' never cost me more than $20.00.
