Sylvaniadvc 865f dvdplayer/vcr cannot get the dvd to play

I can not get the DVD player to work. The progressive Scan light is on all the time. When I hit play it sounds like it is spinning but no picture shows up. The VCR tapes come up with no problem. When you hit the stop button it does sound like the DVD stops spinning. I tried this with more than one DVD to make sure it wasn't the DVD. I received the same results. Please help.

    The progressive scan light is on and it won't play a dvd. I tried to push the stop button for 10 seconds but it didn't go out.

    i have the same problem i tried and i tried with the remote and the light won't go out how do i get this to go away?

First try to clean the laser lens with a lens cleaning disc. Next if that doesent work clean it manually

Issues with my goldstar
Goldstar dvd/vcr combo was stuck in progressive scan. I used the posted solution and now it is out of progressive scan but it continuously reads the dvd and I cannot get the dvd to play. "Reading" conitues to appear on the screen. Any suggestions?

DVD player wont show picture
to turn it off select connection method 3 above and progressive scanning mode, to set the mode, set progressive to off in the display menu so that the p scan indicator light on the front panel goes out. do all of this in interface mode. you can also do this by pressing and holding PLAY > on the front of the unit for more than 5 seconds, still watch for the p scan indicator to go off. this works best when the unit is connected directly to the television.

Cannot remove progressive scan mode
press stop and keep hold of the stop button while you eject the dvd, it worked for me, i played around with it and found pressing stop and holding it while ejecting works

Stuck in Progressive Scan Mode??? Remove the disc(s) from the changer, make sure TV is on Blue Screen...should say "Progressive Scan Mode".......Simply press and hold the stop button for 5-10 seconds and it will reset.

DVD/VCR stuck in Progressive scan mode
With NO DISK in the DVD player PRESS PLAY, (display will say "no disk" or something similar) then PRESS STOP AND HOLD FOR 5-10 SECS. Our DVD was stuck on Progressive Scan Mode for over 1 year, this fixed it. I had tried the press stop, press stop and hold while playing a movie, but not while there was no disk. Try it & Good Luck!!!!!!!!
