DS Lite with R4 Card: Games keep freezing up - please help!
I bought my son a DS Lite in June 08, and it came with an R4 Card with games loaded on an 2GB SD Card. All was working well, and then one day the log in screen changed to japanese writing with cartoon pictures of a chicken, frog, elephant etc., and now when my son plays any games on it, the games freeze up, so it has to be turned off.
I have tried buying a new SD Card, and although I have loaded the programmes on it that it needs to work (DS Menu, Fishell, Moonshell, System), and some other games, when the card is put in the R4 card and into the DS, it does not recognise there being any games on the SD Card, but when the SD card is in my computer, it shows that the games are on there!
I would really appreciate your help please. Could you please list for me, what 'start up files' need to be on the SD Card, and also tell me where to get them from.

You have to put the R4 v1.18 kernel on the memory card for it to work. R4 web site is http://r4ds.cn/ In the download section is the r4 manual follow that and you should be ok.

does it still work with original games if so you may need to update the firmware on the r4 card if not then take the ds back while its still in warrentry as there is no way they can tell what cartridge you've put in the slot1 part of the ds as all the firmware is on the sd card and never transfered to the ds
nope sorry m8 but u could just download the games onto the r4 card instead might be easier + then u could sell the old games cos uve now got them on the r4 card?? !! thats what i'd do anyway
sorry m8
first format your sd card
open the system file and send all the files to your sd card (4 or 5files)then send your games to card...and enjoy...there are tutorials on you tube.
hang about its even reckonising the card? let alone booting into the menu? sure you dont have a duff card? i had 2 of those, sent em back got replacements that work brill.
Me thinks you have the wrong R4 software installed on the chip....
I've done a few of these and all worked fine,,,, even a R4 III which was a tricky little number...... if it is the R4 III - i went for the older software and it worked,,,,, the new version failed on me.
You need to get something like an M3 Real card which fits inside SLOT 1 of your DS (where the DS games go). The M3 card itself has a space for a micro SD card on which you will store the ROMS for the DS games you have on your PC. Note that downloading ROMS is ILLEGAL unless you have bought the original game. Hope this helps. I got my M3 Real from Deal Extreme - they are based in Hong Kong, but deliver promptly and have the best prices I have seen for the M3 Real.
my r4 card is stuck on loading screen
