Most of the time it seems to be the magnetron. The Magnetron is what heats the food, when you remove the magnetron sometimes you will see signs of wear like a black or brown spot on the tube sometimes there is even a hole burned through. A cheap place to find these part is Global Micro Parts in Dallas TX. Usually Magnetrons are about $30 - $45 and shipping is only 7.95 there web site is www.allapplianceparts.com

My microwave doesnt work

If you hear an unusual buzzing noise, the magnetron (the component that actually generates the microwaves) or other electronic module may be broken. This is not easily fixed; contact a service technician.

Thanks,

This is a fairly common problem. I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4223574-microwave_oven_will_not_heat which explains the fix, where to go for parts and how to troubleshoot the unit. Let me know if you need more help.

MICROWAVE IS NOT HEATING

HI, the actual device that produces the heat is damaged or faulty. this device is called the Magnetron. you will need to replace this part in order to restore the heating ability of this microwave oven.

Microwave not heating food

It's most likely the Magnetron. The are not very easy to install and quite expensive. Older models magnetrons cost about 80 bucks from GE. It's probably not something you would want to try and repair yourself. Call a GE service person.

New Microwavbe that will not work.

Since it's less than one year old, it should be fully covered under warranty. I'd suggest contacting the manufacturer to get it fixed free.
