The model number I have is 3205FA. I am new to the use of sewing machines but I have installed the bobbin exactly as described in the manual. I can get the needle to pick up the bobbin thread, but then the thread won't come out any further and seems to get stuck. When I look underneath, the thread seems to be underneath the bobbin case and wrapped around the underside of the case...is that normal? And what could I be doing wrong?
Make sure you have the bobbin case clicked in properly, thgis will cause the thread to tangle round the bobbin case, take the bobbin case out and with a bobbin in the machine pull the thread through nice and even, it should pull through with some slight tension, as you are pulling the thread through look at the actual bobbin to make sure it is not buckled. I've had similar problems (as well as other problem with the thread breaking all the time and the "shuttle race" thing that holds the bobbin falling out. One very important thing that isn't mentioned in the manual but that the salesman stressed is that you have to use only "Schmetz" brand needles. They are a tiny bit longer, but that makes all the difference in the world if your stitches are skipping. I forgot and used Singer needles and had horrible results.
I had exactly the same problem on the exact same model 3205FA. I'm not an expert, but have a little experience on solving my wife and daughter's sewing machine mechanical problems. I would suggest the following: A. Page 6 of the owners manual see item # 1...to be precise it is 1 1/2 times around. B. Page 7 at the bottom, Make sure the bobbin tension spring is set so that there is tension. When holding the tread the bobbin shouldn't unroll. If jiggled about 2-3 inches the bobbin should release about 1/3 of that distance. C. Page 8 at the bottom, ill. # 2. There are two flange holders and screws that hold the bobbin case in position located at about 5 and 7 o'clock. Make sure both screws are tight. This is important. D. Make sure the thread is treaded through the upper tension adjustment properly. See page 9 # Illustration C. Terrible illustration. Keep the dial generally in the green range. E. Put in a new needle, the needles that come with the machine are just short of terrible. Wouldn't hurt to buy good top quality needles for the machine.
