On an Epson printer I cannot scan because I always get a message that says "file cannot be created please use another prefix for file name". How can this be fixed?

Read through the discussion at the internet link below, and it may help you fix this.

https://archivehistory.jeksite.org/chapters/scan_part5.htm

Quoting:

Other> Save settings: saves the settings and preview when Epson Scan is closed and is usually convenient.

The button for File Save Settings to the right of the Scan button determines the folder, file name, and format for the output files. The Location section of the dialog box specifies where the output files are written. I normally select the Other button and then Browse to identify the folder.
The output file names are limited to a prefix and number. The prefix can be set to identify the image. The added number is usually not needed and can be removed by renaming the file after it has been created.
The field for Image Format includes the usual TIFF and JPEG. Note that plain TIFF should normally be used for archival scanning, not the Multi-TIFF option.
The checkbox for "Show this dialog box before next scan" can be checked to give the opportunity to set the output file name for each scan. As noted above, the prefix part of the name can identify the image.
The checkbox for "Open image folder after scanning" can be checked to provide the opportunity to examine the final image and rename the output file.

[Linux] How to create a List of files in a directory with neccssary fields

OS: Any Linux / Unix Systems
Purpose : To create a text file containing a list of contents of a directory in specific manner.
Mode of Operation: Command Line Interface
#################################################################

hi...

We often need to create List of contents in a directory, such as , for a Personal Work Logs where each entry represents the activity on a specific day.

We can create File list quickly and easily in Linux and use it to find specific files quickly.

Though there are several methods and several commands , we only focus on easy way , which need to use two commands - cd , ls
cd - [Change Directory] changes the current working directory to specified directory.
USAGE: cd
For more details, Type " man cd " on Terminal or visit here

ls - [LiSt] This command lists the contents. This command supports many options which will customize the output
USAGE: ls
For More Details , Type " man ls " on Terminal or visit here

##############################################################
STEPS

  1. First we need to open a Terminal ( Shell / Bash ).
You can find shortcut to execute Terminal in Application Menu.
In Ubuntu shortcut to open terminal is [Ctrl] + [Alt] + [T] or press [Alt] + [F2] to open Run and type " gnome-terminal "
    Or you can get a terminal by Pressing [Ctrl} + [Alt] + [F1] ~ [F6]
A typical Terminal may look like this
    nightflare_7.png
So now we have a terminal to work with. :-)

  2. Now we need to change current working folder location (In most cases its user's home directory. In my case its /home//Documents) to the folder, of which contents should be listed.
you can view current working directory by the help of command. Type pwd and press [Enter]
For this we can use cd command.
Say, your folder whose contents should be listed is " Source " and is located in " /home/Documents/ " then you should type as

    cd /home/Documents/Source and press [Enter]

For example, i need to create a list of my English video song collection ( My English songs are located on /media/FUNCLUB/2.VIDEO SONGS/ENGLISH ) , then i would type first:

    cd /media/FUNCLUB/2.VIDEO SONGS/ENGLISH

To confirm working directory is changed properly, type " pwd " and press [Enter]. It should display our folder.
    nightflare_8.png

  3. Now type ' ls ' and press [Enter]. Then it should display folder's contents.
    nightflare_9.png
If you can see contents of folder , everything is working well.

  4. Now need to tell ls how the contents should by displayed. There a lots of formats ls supports. Commonly used formats are
    • ls -l Display contents in detailed List View
      nightflare_10.png
In Order Permissions Owner Group Size in Bytes Created On File Name

    • ls -h Tell ls to display sizes in human readable format (KB, Mb, GB etc.)
This option uses in conjunction with other options like -l, -s etc
      nightflare_11.png

    • ls -s Display File name and its contents. Usually with -h
      nightflare_12.png

    • There are a lot more options to control the output format of ls command. To find more about this, please visit here.

  5. We have learned how to format output of ' ls '.
' ls ' command outputs to the standard Output (STDOUT) of computer, which is most commonly the monitor itself. Now all we need to save the screen prints to a file so that we can view results later.
Here what we do is to transfer the output produced by ls command to a file. This is done by " > " ( 'Greater Than' Symbol ).
    'Character' - ' Purpose '
' > ' - Transfer the output from STDOUT to file
' >> ' - Append the output to specified file (Add the output to end of file)

    Usage:
    ls [Options] >[File]

    example:

    ls -sh >/home/nightflare/Desktop/List_Of_Video_files.txt

Hi Team, I have created macro in MS Excel2007 and after executing macro output file will be created MS Excel2003. Once MS Excel2003 file closed and reopen all the formating lost. How can overcome this...

It is unlikely that you can really overcome this as Office 2003 and Office 2007 have completely different file formats and structures. But if you output it to an Office 2007 file and use the Microsoft converter for Office 2003 than it may work. The converter can be found here

I am unable to install the update for Versacheck 2002 - message is "Can't create output file: C:\Program Files\G7PS\VersaCheck 2002\_Update\ZUpdate.exe" I followed the instructions from...

1. Check that the path exists, i.e., you have a folder named: C:\Program Files\G7PS\VersaCheck 2002\_Update\ 2. Check that you have permissions to create a file there, e.g., create a simple dummy.txt file in this directory with notepad (you can delete the test file after that)
If (1) is the problem - create the necessary folder(s) if (2) is the problem - check the you run as administrator

Export:error:real time c:\users\owner\appdata\local\microsfolder\render\my movie 848e009f\alternate\render\my movie 848e009f\dvd\studiosequence\temp' Help - what does this mean? What should I do?

Hi and Welcome,

If you are experiencing Export Errors using Studio, the following FAQ should help:
1. UPDATE TO THE LATEST PATCH:

Click here for the latest Studio 12 patch
There is no patch available at this time for Studio 14
2. ENSURE BACKGROUND RENDERING COMPLETES:

Allow the green bars that appear over clips that have had filters, transitions or other effects added to complete before going to the Make Movie stage.

3. ALWAYS REINCODE ENTIRE MOVIE

If after installing the latest version of Studio, the Export Error persists and you are attempting to create a DVD, then in Studio click on the Setup pull-down menu and select Make Disc. On the top portion of the Make Disc tab make sure there is a check in the box for the setting "Always re-encode entire movie", then click the OK button. Create the DVD again.

4. DELETE AUXILIARY FILES

Delete the auxiliary files before rendering. To do this, go to File >> Delete Auxiliary Files. This will bring up a window to chose which auxiliary files will be deleted. Select the option to delete the files for the current project. Once this is done, try to output the project.

Output a ghosterr.txt message when I use the Restore CD's

You can change the default abort file (ghosterror.txt) location and name by specifying the switch -afile=filename where filename contains the path and name of the error file you wish to create.

Example: ghost -afile=c:\errorfile.txt

Please try this switch and post your error file if you are successful.
