Call a Gas fitter. At least then you will get the job done properly and it won't kill you later.

SOURCE: hotpoint stove oven

This is a simple step-by-step procedure.

1. Turn off the power to the oven at the breaker panel. Or slide the oven ahead and reach behind to unplug the power cord.

2. Take out the two screws holding the element bracket in place. These will be on the back wall of the oven. They are usually hex head or phillips screws.

3. Carefully pull the element toward you a little bit until you see the two wires behind it. Unscrew the wire leads and remove the bad heating element.

4. Handle the new element carefully while you attach the wires to it. Don't stretch the wires any more than you have to.

5. Line up the new element while tucking the wires back in place. Be sure not to pinch the wires between the bracket and the back wall.

6. Fasten the bracket screws, making sure they're tight.

7. Restore power to the appliance and start your oven to check if the new element heats up.

A few things to remember...

You are working with high voltage! Be sure the power is off or the oven is unplugged!

If you find one of the wires has come off the old element, simply reconnect and check your oven. Your old element may work again and you will not need to purchase a new one.

In removing any of the screws mentioned above, note that they may be difficult to lossen due to years of exposure to heat. Don't give up, they will eventually loosen.

Your new element may have some oil or other gunk on it due to the manufacturing process. Once it begins to heat, it may start to smoke. Don't panic! Any residue will eventually burn away and the smoke will cease from then on.

Good Luck!

SOURCE: GE gas stove the burners on top work, the oven won't get hot

The most common reason a gas oven won't heat is a bad igniter. It is located near the valve and burner under the oven bottom. You can usually see it glow orange just before the fire lights. Most GE ranges take a cylindrical igniter part #WB2X9154 or #WB13K21 rectangular igniter.

SOURCE: Replacement Parts For Vintage Magic Chef stove

You probably have a 1940's model of Magic Chef. Check for the model number under the lid of the cook top on the upper right hand side of the stove. It should have the model number and the serial number, too. You will need both. The Old Applicance Club run by Jack Santoro is the place to go along with a site called "Antique gas stoves"in Georgia. Good luck with the world of vintage stoves.

SOURCE: hotpoint electic stove, the burners and the oven not working

Is there any sign of life? Does the oven light come on or does the clock work? Just for kicks, go and reset the breaker - it should be a double breaker for a 220V appliance - sometimes half will throw and still leave 110v that will run the light / clock.

We have a Lofra dual fuel cooker 5 years old which needs a new rubber door seal on the gas oven but cannot find anywhere to obtain this part. Can you help? Pip Bedford

Hi I also had difficulty in obtaining a Lofra oven door seal but after searching and searching the internet I obtained an email address and now the problem has been solved. I received my oven door seal from the Italian Lofra company direct this morning. I dealt with a lady named Donatella and I found her very helpful. She can be contacted on [email protected] just give her the make of your cooker and she will let you know if she has one mine cost around £14. Good luck Suzie :)

My parents have a lofra 90cm gas stove and can't find the electric start for it. They are using a lighter to ignite it.

Purchased a Savoir-faire free-standing stove (model C900) about 5 years ago and need to replace the rubber seal (2270mm). Brand doesn't exist any more - where can I source this product?

We have a 5 ring Lofra oven (all gas) and live in spain and the seal on the oven door has perished - we need to replace it but it seems Lofra UK has gone bust and from reading reports, Italy is not helpful...

There are many types of seals that can be used which are universal and not specific. You must check with the Kitchen appliances spare parts dealer for assistance. Take along the sample of the gasket to get a look alike type.
Also there are many available in shops that sell penumatic tubings specially silicon gaskets. Only the groove need to match with the heat resistance characteristics.
