When inserting vhs tape with tab intact and the play button is press the vhs will play for 5 seconds, when the tabe is removed it will not auto play but will shut off. When power button is press the unit will power up but will eject the vhs tape. When the vhs tape is fast forward and rewind to the ends several times the unit will play for awhile. When left for a day or two it will return to the problem again. DVD side work very well.
This combo has a problem with the vcr unit which take up wheel will stop working and spill the tape. the unit will stop and eject the tape. You have to replace the whole vcr assembly.

This is actually an easy fix what you do is you take off lid the VCR cleaning everything with a Q-tip and a little alcohol all the gears accept the head with the head you use a cloth 4 eyeglass wear that's for anti reflective lenses and a little alcohol this will not scratch your head on the VCR
Then next you take.and use white grease and grease everything that has a track area being careful not to touch heads . You even do that tracks on the side of the VCR the ones that go in to the machine
Then towards the front of machine you will see two round gears lift those up slightly and check to see if white tape is in tracks if not push it slightly with a cuetip.
Then put machine back together as tape won't work with top of machine off
Plug in and hook.up IT should work now.
Good luck
Do this before you replace a ton if part

On mine it was the Mode Switch contacts had become dirty over time. The Mode switch is a rotary switch which is mounted on the circuit board underneath the VCR unit. It is kind of hard to get to, and will need good soldering skills to get to it since you will be needing to de-solder/re-solder the ribbons that connect the VCR unit to the bottom of the circuit board. Everything needs to come out in order to get to the mode switch. This is one of the harder repairs to do due to each the small wires of the ribbons having to be soldered to their own tiny pad. So if you don't have the skill and equipment find someone who does.
**Tip: take lots of pictures before and during so you can go back and use as reference when putting everything back together. see pictures for reference.

Hello
Ofcourse you need an external tuner to receive any RF signals. Your Magnavox is not equipped with internal tuner with it. OK.

There is typically a small rubber belt or plastic gear that goes between the tray motor and the tray. Most modern units have the plastic gear. I would bet that it is missing a tooth or stripped its teeth or possibly fell off completely. You should be able to manually push the drawer in. To open it, there should be a small hole near the tray into which you can push a straightened-out paper clip.
Good luck!

Hi, sometimes one also must hook up the Audio with the red & White audio stereo leads as well some HDMI do NOT stream the audio over the HDMI port, and thus one must use the RCA stereo jacks to supply audio to the device.
Some HDMI cables also don't have all the wires through and a change of cable may help, this is rare though.
