Hmm...try taking the hard drive away from ur laptop and use a ''hard drive caddy'' to connect it via usb to another pc.Then format it and try to recover again. It might also be a bios error wich i don't think you can replace on a laptop motherboard. Also try contacting toshiba for a replace or refund if in warranty.

Toshiba no bootable device--insert boot disk and press any key

try booting from a Windows installation disc. Choose the repair installation option. If this does not work, you may have to erase (format) your whole drive and start over again by reinstalling Windows from scratch.

Before erasing the drive, you might want to pull it out, put as a second drive in another working computer or inside a USB hard drive case and download all of your information from it. Otherwise you may have a mess on your hands with lost data/documents/photos.

How to restore a toshiba satellite a135-s2286 notebook without cd?

the f8 function is only to try and remedy boot problems. the recovery option you're getting is to restore if you have already made recovery discs.
if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive you should be able to access it when you boot up. before starting your laptop press and hold 0(zero) key and power on the laptop. once it starts you should get a screen with 3 options then choose option 1 to get back to factory restore.

Restore toshiba A40 to factory settings

Toshiba Factory Reset
a couple of ways to do that without the CDs - if available on your PC
  1. 1) If you have a recovery partition on the laptop - have a read here to see if you have one http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/outFrm.jsp?ofId=AskIris&searchString=recovery+to+factory
  2. 2) This link shows you how to use the partition http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/bulletinDetail.jsp?soid=2291088&pf=true basically as the PC boots TAP F8 key - from the menu that appears choose "repair your computer"
If that option is NOT available then you will need to Order CDs from Toshiba - http://laptopforums.toshiba.com/t5/System-Recovery-and-Recovery/Recovery-media/m-p/9148#U9148

Factory restore

On a laptop there is no factory setting reset option (unless you mean bios reset ). To get the laptop back to the initial 'as new' condition you need to re-install the system using the recovery disk on startup. Put recovery cd 1 inside laptop cd drive and restart the computer. Follow instructions for complete restore.
If you do complete restore you can lose all your data.
