I,have to turn on tv manually. change input manually,tv reception is ok. Volume cannot be controlled,it will lock in at full volume or drift back & forth, mostley full volume. If I use volume buttons on tv , it changes input (video 1 pc hdmi & so on) Once in a while setup screen will appear then disappear. I have changed batteries in the remote, I don`t believe this is the problem. When tv is first turned on the volume icon at bottom off screen will go from 0-60 and hang. since I cannot get remote to work with tv I can`t use mute button. The problem apppears to be in the tv itself?
Try doing this:
Self-check indication only:
Produce TV reception screen, and while pressing [VOLUME ( - )] button on the main unit, press [OK] button on the remote control
for more than 3 seconds.
Self-check indication and forced to factory shipment setting:
Produce TV reception screen, and while pressing [VOLUME ( - )] button on the main unit, press [MENU] button on the remote
control for more than 3 seconds.
9.1.2. Exit
Disconnect the AC cord from wall outlet.
This is straight out of the service manual.

In reply to your answer. what exactly is the s/w on the tv? Also the screen is flashing thru all the input modes constantly. I hear a humming sound for a few seconds then nothing. this seems to keep repeating itself every few seconds. Thanks for your reply.
It appears that the volume is locked on at full volume, thus making a humming sound in the speakers about every 5 seconds or so. manual volume control has no effect.
Problem solved. the problem was in the manual controls on tv. I bypassed the controls, the remote worked perfect. The tv is back up and running perfect minus the manual controls on the tv which was causing all the problems in the first place. Down the road I may replace the control board, but right now every thing is working fine. I just need to be sure and keep batteries on hand for remote. Again ,thank you for your reply. John
John, I have the identical problem - How did you bypass the manual controls?
