Model ET14NKXEW00 Top freezer 1996 model Whirlpool refrigerator

Water leaks down into the refrigerator from somewhere and it spills out on the floor. We do not have an icemaker or a water source hooked to the refrigerator, so the water must be condesation. Someone suggested something wrong with the automatic defroster? This has been going on to some degree for a year or more, but not constantly. Should I just get a new refrigerator? The freezer and refrigerator both cool well.

Water from the melted evaporator frost is normally drained down to a pan mounted on the compressor . The heat from the compressor is normally enough to vaporize this water. Sometimes the evaporation may be reduced due to- high humidity (in the kitchen). Try keeping the exhaust fan on for a while. Also check if the drain line is blocked or shifted out of the drain pan.

Water is leaking and freezing on the top two selves near the rear on the refrigerator. My unit of about 10 years old and just has the freezer on the top and the refrigerator on the top. No signs of leaking...

The problem is the drain is clogged. Remove the back panel in your freezer and at the bottom of the evaporator coil you will see a hole about ½" in diameter this is the drain tube. Try using a turkey baster to flush out the drain tube. You might need to use some warm water to melt the ice and then run a wire being very careful not to puncture the hose and run it down the tube to free up the drain. This tube travel down to the bottom of your refrigerator to a pan sometimes located on top of the compressor or somewhere else down there. It collects the water there to evaporate. After cleaning mix a 50 -50 solution of baking soda and water and run some down the drain tube this should help prevent future clogs. You can enter your model # at www.appliancehelponline.com for a diagram or illustration of your refrigerator. Not all models are available.

We were able to fix the freezer water leak. We unscrewed the false freezer floor and the inside back panel. Ice had accumulated on the freezer floor and the defrosting drain was frozen. We removed the ice by using a blow dryer then poured boiling hot water onto the frozen drain hole. The frozen water in the drain pipe hole eventually melted and the water released into the defrosting drip pan at the bottom of the refrigerator. Problem solved. We no longer have water leaking into the refrigerator.

Defroster leaks

you have a clogged defrost drain tube. removing back panel of freezer will give you acess to drain trough, melt away the ice with a hair dryer, youll find a drain hole under there somwhere, pouring boiling water down the drain will clear it pretty quickly( i use a steam machine purchased from the infomercials works awesome, after you clear it and all water drain down tube wrap a piece of solid copper wirearound the heater( black calrod heater right above the drain trough) and stick it in the whole maybe an inch or so. now everythime the heater comes on to defrost it will prevent the hole from freezing over
