Yes for sure you can do that.As the connector is RJ45.The only think is that for Thomson you need a cross-wired cable to connect to the netgear JFS524. Max distance for Cat5e cable is about 100M, but that is the best case scenario, essentially a straight line, down a building. If you have any kind of interference, like flourescent lighting, high voltage lines running parallel to the ethernet cable, the distance will be much less than 100M. Although it looks like you have 60 feet to spare, anything interfering with the cables will cut the signal down. Try to move the switches closer together, make the cable from pc to switch longer and ADSL modem to switch longer and cable between switches shorter. Use a known good straight through ethernet cable, as modern switches don't require crossover cables.

Try a cross over network cable from the PC to the E-Series. Raymarine Made each one of their cables as a straight cable so you would need to buy the cross over coupler or network switch box to use it with another unit. It's nothing different from normal networking with the exception that they have removed wires 4,5,7 & 8 from the cable and it's a straight. Give that a try.

Yes you can make a simple Network between 2 PCs ....but ....you need what is called a "crossover ethernet cable" or "xover". A standard RJ45 ethernet cable WILL NOT work.

You also need to make sure both Pcs are in the same Workgroup and have unique computer names.... as is standard in Networking.

If you are using a network cable to connect two computers without a hub, then the cable has to be a CROSS OVER cable. You can't use a standard network cable.
If you connect more then two computers to make a network of computers then you must use a hub and standard network cables.

Check the following:

Hardware First: Is Vista confirming LAN connection onn that PC, or is it showing disconnected cable?

Is the connection properties showing at least 100Mbps?
Are the RJ45 terminals okay?
Is the driver for the network card recognized by Vista and loaded?

If that is fine, then check the following in the network properties:

1. The IP address you are using
2. The gateway address: it must be the same as the gateway address in the other PCs accessing internet. Run and check
3. The Subnet mask. Use 255.255.255.0
4. HAve you Setup the Nework using the Setup Wizard, including Access INTERNET THROUGH A HUB THROUGH ANOTHER COMPUTER ON MY NETWORK?

Check those things and let us know. Ask for help from your network administrator about correct IP addresses on that LAN

Please check the RJ45 plugs. the wiring should be as follows: RG45 connector side#1 legs 1236 goes to RG45 connector side#2 legs 1236 see the colors of the wires they should be equal

check cable connection make sure it is all straight cable not cross cable, the switch could incounter traffic.
