When i turn the camera to take a photo, no image appears in the LCD or the eyepiece. this just happened all the sudden. I am able to view pictures that I've already taken in the LCD and the LCD will also give me the menus, picture count, everything that you would expect to see except the image that you want to take a picture of. i tried to take a picture, but the screen was just black as well. any and all help will be appreciated! thanks, mark

Just this week-end, i experienced something similar with my s5000. the playback function works correctly, however when you switch to'shoot' mode, the lens does not extend & there is no image on the screen. could this be a damaged CCD as well, or possible a lens motor problem?

There may be two reasons for this problem. 1. may be a defective or broken CCD. 2. the shutter is not working may be due to broken flex circuit cable. in any of the case you have to get it fixed from a professional camera repairer

MY CAMERA TAKES PHOTOS THAT APPEARS SHARP ON THE LCD BUT BLURRED AND DISFOCUSED AFTER DOWNLOAD.....

Your LCD is only a small preview screen. I have on many occasions tested a camera and viewed on the screen. When you view the image on a computer it is enlarged to a much larger image. If your pictures appear out of focus you may have a bad lens. Set your camera to the highest mega pixel rate and retake some test images. If these are blurred you have a bad lens.

LCD on - view image prior to taking photo

The feature you are referring to is called "Live View mode".

This is NOT available on the Nikon D80, and was only introduced on the D90, which is available now.

Live View mode allows you to use the LCD screen as your view finder instead of using the eyepiece, but unfortunately, this feature is not available in your model.

LCD not working

There's a good possibilty that your mode switch is broken. Same thing happened to my Z6. I was able to source replacement switches, and can replace them.

LCD Screen does not work properly

Your camera works just like a film camera SLR,. You use the eyepiece to frame and focus your picture. The LCD screen is for reviewing pictures taken or menu operations. You cannot preview a shot on screen before it is taken with the camera.
