Try reinstalling the software that came with the unit. Go into device manager & see if the unit shows there, & make sure there are no conflicts. Your owner's manual may also have a tech help number to call.

Unplug mp3 player from computer. Go to Control Panel --> System --> Device Manager --> Uninstall MTP Device. Uninstall all Philips software. Reinstall Philips software from the CD or the Philips website. Replug mp3 player into computer. Good luck!

SOURCE: I just spent 4h trying to install philips SA5285.
Go to microsoft.com and download and install Windows Media player 11. I found it really upseting also that I spent the same amount of time with this as you. None of the error messages that philips gives you will tell you this. Very frustrating and shame on philips for causing this grief. Just tell us what to do instead of some ******** error message...

Hello,
MTP stands for Media Transfer Protocol: it means that the player is switched into the MTP connection mode. Files can be transferred in this mode using a software program.
You can look in the manual, which software program matches your player or get a download from the support site (see below).
When you'd like to transfer media in the explorer in "My Computer": look in the manual how to switch to MSC mode for viewing the player as a removable disc. Transfers in MSC mode are the same as copying files to an external usb flash drive: be sure to have the files in the correct format for the player, before transferring.
All support for the "GoGear Vibe" can be acquired going to next site and select the exact model from the list:
