Stopped consistently producing sound

This 3 year-old Denon AVR1603 receiver has been trouble-free until recently. Now it's hit & miss whether it produces sound or not. I turn on the TV, then the Denon, route the TV sound through the Denon, and it may or may not produce sound. Stranger yet is that sometimes it waits 3-4 minutes before producing sound. I've seen the same behavior with DVDs and CDs. The Denon recognizes the input source and the cable it should be using, and recognizes the digital signal, but stops there. "Sometimes" I can get communication between the TV and Denon by unplugging and replugging the coax. I also discovered the cable from the subwoofer to the Denon was not making a clean connection, so I swapped it for a new cable. I have it hooked up to a Pioneer DV C503 DVD/CD Player, Scientific America Digital Cable box, a Mitsubishi HD-1080i TV, and a Niles SPS-4 speaker selection box. My surround sound speakers are Paradigm OM-100 with Paradigm center and subwoofer speakers. External speakers are routed through the Niles box. I'm using an optical audio cable to the DVD player and a Coax to the DVR. I've taken the receiver and coax to an authorized repair center, who tell me everything is working fine. I tell them I'm still having the problem, and they want me to break the system down and bring it all back to the shop. Any ideas would be appreciated. I'm stumped. Thanks in advance! Brian

Try plugging and unplugging a pair of headphones. The headphone jack in these receivers are flaky and sometimes think there are headphones hooked up even when there isn't. Full repair would require the headphone jack to be replaced. If you don't use headphones at all, you can take the top cover off and unplug the cable going to the headphone jack board and eliminate the problem that was as well.

SOURCE: display on but no sound from any input

I have a similar problem. I connected a Toshiba HD-a2 dvd player and cannot get digital audio from any of the hd movies. Regular dvd's play just fine. Toshiba told me the receiver is to old and can't process the new format. I was wondering if there is an upgrade for the receiver or any other way I can get 5.1 out of this receiver with out having to get a new one..

SOURCE: Connecting Denon receiver to DVD player

Normally the optical inputs are disabled unless specifically turned on. I dono't know your specific model. I'll research the model and update this with more specifics.

SOURCE: Connecting DVD player to AV receiver

If you've done that already and still no response from your system, I would suggest to take back to the place where you bought it and ask them to check it for you. Tell them that you follow the user's manual to the "T" but still unable to make it work.
Good Luck.

SOURCE: No sound from optical or coax digital inputs

You have to use the system setting using the remote and turn on the inputs you want to use. Hope this helps.

Denon avr-1907 sound from TV stopped working

Help with hooking PS3 to a Denon Receiver. It worked before, but I had to move everything to a different location and when I hooked it back up the PS3 has sound but no picture. I have it hooked directly to the receiver with and HDMI cable (the receiver is hooked up to our cable box which is directly hooked to the tv via HDMI cable).

I have a Denon AVR1603, recently I plugged computer in AUX connections at rear (not loud) and it kept tripping out. Eventually it tripped and now the the on/standby light fashes but nothing else happens....

The LED flash indicates that unit goes into protection. Check the power transistors, the 0.22 ohm or 0.47 resistors in the output of the transistors.

Listen for a relay clicking inside. It you hear it but get no power, it is a problem with the relay. If there is no click, it is probably the power supply.

Denon AVR 1705-no audio on TV

I have had the same problem and was told that it is a "board" inside. Essentially it has lost the surround sound ability and can only play things in Direct/Stereo. Mine is just over 2 years and I originally thought my kids had hit a button on the thing causing the issue...ended up paying $100 to trouble shoot it and confirm that it is internal and more expensive to fix than replace. Can't say that I will be buying a Denon again.

No sound

1. check if the amp is in PROTECTION mode (might be a bad speaker or shorted output)
2. check the 'MUTE' switch
3. try to use the FM/AM mode to isolate an input source. If there is sound then check input source.
4. ...still no sound have a techinician check it.
