My 1994 Jeep grand cherokee won't start. It tries to start but doesn't. Tried replacing cap and rotor and still will not start. When I checked the spark it was yellow. What does that mean?

Yellow means weak spark should be blue check the coil tower where the coil wire attaches on the coil for corrosion. Also check the spark plugs for wear.

OK...I have a 93 outside...one diagram I have shows an ignition module next to coil...but there is none on mine, (4.0 engine)
Two items to check are crank sensor and cam sensor inside distributor. Test procedure can be found in just about any manual including haynes.
You will need a decent volt/ohm meter to do testing. You can also check codes by turning ignition switch on/off three times, leaving it on the third time. Check engine will flash code #'s (ex: one flash, pause two flashes= the number twelve.then followed by a longer pause then another set of flashes etc.)

It is likely one of your battery cables loose. Same thing just happened to me today. What you need to do is first lock the doors, and close them. Then you need to disconnect, and reconnect the battery cable, then if the security lights still blink you must use your key to unlock the door, then it should stop blinking, and start just fine.

Replaced cps, distributer(cap, rotor, cam position sensor)checked coil good still no spark, replaced coil wire and plugs is the computer next?ignition control module is in the pcm i think

If the check engine light does NOT come on when cranking at the times when it won't start, then your ECU is in need of repair. The engine will only start after the check engine light comes on and the ecu is what controls that. It's likely going bad, causing the delayed start problem typical of early 90's jeeps. Repair or replacement services for your jeep ECU are available on ebay.

I replaced my distributor cap and pickup coil on my 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.2 and note it won't start as if its not getting enough fuel whereas before it would start fine. Any thoughts?

If only happened after fitting new parts, then must be electrical fault.
Make sure you connected the coil corectly, and that the cap is fitted right. Didn't leave out the rotor button?? Also make sure the coil is correct one for your vehicle.

1993 jeep cherokee won't start

MAKE SURE DISTRIBUTOR CAP ,ROTOR, SPARKPLUGS AND WIRES, OKAY IF ALL HAS BEEN REPLACED.IF NOT GETTING SPARK PROBLEM COULD BE IGNITION COIL FAULTY, ASD RELAY FAULTY,DISTRIBUTOR WITH CAMSHAFT SENSOR FAULTY OR YOU HAVE FAULTY PCM. CODE SCAN VECHICLE FOR FAULT CODE, IF YOU ARE GETTING SPARK PROBLEM IN THE FUEL SYSTEM, CHECK FUEL PUMP RELAY AND FUSE MAKE SURE FUEL FILTER BEEN CHANGED AND FUEL PRESSURE IS 39 - 41 PSI. CHECK FOR FUEL SPARK SEE WHAT GOING ON, VECHICLE NEEDS FUEL OR SPARK TO RUN IF ONE NOT WORKING ENGINE WILL NOT START.

My 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo had the upstream O2 sensors go bad. I didn't get them replaced for a long time and the vehicle just sat parked. I just replaced them. I had to charge the battery and...

depending on how long it sat, and also on if you had the code cleared when you replaced the o2 sensors could be why the light is lit, Now for the not starting, again depending on how long it sat ,, check the fuel pressure, you need a constant 6 lbs of pressure , also check for fire, pull one of the plugs,, reattach the plug wire to it,, hold it with a pair of insulated pliers, and ground the bottom of the plug to ground, any bolt attached to the motor ( as long as its a metal surface) will do, have someone crank the motor , Look for a nice blue spark arching across the tip of the plug, if it does, you have spark, put the plug back in, if it doesn't, you need to back track the electrical system,, follow the wire back to the dist cap,, remove the cap, check for any burn marks or charred or eroded contact terminals inside the cap,, also check the rotor tip, and contact rotor button in the center of the cap,

On my '98 grand cherokee i've replaced plugs, rotor, d'cap, and coil and still will not start. why?

Was it running before you replaced all of those? If so, then you need to backtrack and check that you got everything hooked up right.

If it wasn't running, you need to tell us a lot more indication other than it just won't run. Like what error codes you got, etc.

I have a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 6 Cyl. The vehicle was kind of running rough on idle. Take in consideration that I have replaced the spark plugs, spark plug wires a while ago. So I decided to...

CHECK ASD RELAY THAT IS AUTOMATIC SHUTDOWN RELAY IN THE POWER DISTRIBUTION CENTER UNDER THE HOOD IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT.IF ASD RELAY GOOD PROBLEM COULD BE CAMSHAFT SENSOR IN THE DISTRIBUTOR.TO SAVE TIME AND MONEY HAVE JEEP SCANNED FOR CAMSHAFT SENSOR AND CRANKSHAFT SENSOR FAULTS.

Jeep won;t start..new fuel pump installed

try the fuel filter and make sure you have proper oil pressure!! Remeber if you have tried craking to many bad times then the plugs are going to be fouled out!! Means that they are going to be drowned with gas and need replacing!! Also make sure your fuel pump is coming on!! You should hear a hissin or a hummin noise back from the fuel tank!
