Loud Noise - Spin Cycle

I own a Kenmore frot loading clothes washer. The washer works fine except during the spin cycle. Even though it spins a loud noise is coming from the machine. This noise happens on fast and also normal spin settings. It almost sounds if someone is landing an airplane in my laundry room.

It sounds like the bearings are going bad. Try spinning the drum with your hand while it is empty. It should spin nice and smooth. If the rotation feels a little rough and noisy, you might have a problem. You can double check by taking the drive belt off and try shaking the pulley. If there is "play" when shaking the pulley, the bearings are most likely toast. The inner stainless drum rides on two bearings which sit in the rear of the outer plastic drum. The whole plastic drum and bearings come as one piece and go for $150. It would cost about the price of a new maching to have someone come out and repair it for you. It sounds like kenmore has had a bearing problem which is pretty rediculous considering how much these things cost. Sears said, "those tend to go in a few years", which is criminal especially since the warrenty is usually conveniently exopired by the time this problem happens. If you are handy, have a spare day, and can remember how to put a washing machine back together, go for it. I did it and it was not a fun time. There is a lot of sharp metal edges in the machine so wear gloves. good luck

As posted above, it's the bearing. There are 2, only 1 may be bad, but you should replace them both. Get SKF, part numbers below. The SKF (chicago rawhide) seal part number changed. The new number is 562737. I pounded the bearings out with a hammer and a pipe with the drum-half over a piece of wood with a hole in it. I tapped the new one's in place with a piece of wood on top of the old bearing, trying to keep it flush as I tapped it in. I also didn't get a new drum o-ring, instead I ran a thin bead of 100% silicone around the old o-ring and it worked fine. Runs very quiet now!

Seal: SKF 562737
6307-2RS bearing (inboard)
6306-2RS bearing (outboard)

Demand a recall.

It's surely a design problem, and the problem is designed to feed Kenmore/Sears' repair services while you are encouraged to apply the service visit charge toward the purchase of a new Kenmore.

Washers used to last a couple of decades until the manufacturers started to take lessons from the computer industry.

How to do you demand a recall, I have a Maytag Bravos that is doing the samething $ 690.00 to fix it and we paid $999.00 3 years ago. So disapppointed

If you read the manual it tells that a loud noise during the spin cycel is normal. They say they front-end loaders sound just like a plane landing. So there might not be anything wrong with it.

SOURCE: Loud Noise - Spin Cycle

If the washer is making a squealing noise, the problem is more likely to be the basket drive. If it is more like a rattling sound, the centerpost bearings are probably worn out. Open machine's rear panel and spin the basket manually by turning the drive pulley, to find out from where exactly the noise come from. Defective part should be replaced. Good luck !!

Why does the Drum spin erratic even without clothes in it?

might be a warped spin basket or the dampers could need to be replaced. could even be a bad spin bearing. if it was bearing, normally would be associated with a loud noise during the spin cycle though.

My whirlpool duet washer hammers very loud when it spins. The outside of the machine doesn't seem to vibrate much but it is very loud.

That is a common occurrence with dryers such as this one. Even though it sounds bad, it is harmless. If it really bothers, you can re-balance the load and it should reduce the vibration.
