This is caused by a bad convergence module, and there are probably some dried out electrolytic caps in the circuit as well. i have one in the shop right now that came in with the same problem. if you have it serviced, make sure they replace all of the convergence modules (there are usually 2, but sometimes 3 of them), because if one went bad the other(s) is likely to go out soon as well.
I have a Toshiba 42H81 with the same issue.
5+ years old. Paid $1450 and got great use out if it with no problems.
wavy picture started slowly about 2 weeks ago.
Is this a complex fix for a typical repair service? Anyone know what a fair cost to repair is for this issue?
Thanks

There is a large metal case behind the input board in the back of the set called the hyper board that needs to be replaced.Good Luck

this is a very common occurance in these sets. toshiba has issued a servece bullteen with this set. Sorry to tell you this but this is a problem with some very small capacitors on what is known as the hypermodule. in my shop we fix 2 to 5 of these a month. you really have to know how to solder. Idealy replace the hypermodule is the best way. but......that board is hard to find. so we replace these 11 very very small componets with twezzers and a big magnifier. we charge about 250 to 350 for this repair.

this is very common with these sets. the fix is to replace 11 very very smal capacitor on what is known as the hypermodule. The ideal sitation is to replace the hypermodule. if you can find it. I can do this repair. I have done about 10 at the shop. if you need to i would suggest finding someone who is very experence in surface mounted repair
