Hi! My Siemens SE64A630GB integrated dishwasher stopped working recently around the end of the drying cycle: there was an audible "pop", a little smoke, and it tripped the main RCD for the house. Can anyone please advise re likely nature of the fault, what parts I should check, etc? Though 7 years old, the dishwasher is otherwise in very good condition so it would be a shame to have to replace it... Many thanks in advance
Hi,
I
have an older dishwasher also and recently my wife also complained
about it not cleaning right... so me being the man I am tried in vain
to clean the things... Bought new spray arms online and installed
them in minutes...now the thing works like new... However I have also
found that if the heating element goes bad then that also can mess
things up bad... So I would buy new spray arms, and also check out
the heating element to make sure it is working... Here is a tip that
will help you with the online buying...

I finally got round to taking the dishwasher apart to investigate the problem. Though it's a fitted dishwasher, it was much easier than expected. There was a clear black smoke mark around the capacitor/supressor where the mains cable enters the back of the dishwasher. The capacitor simply unplugs, and testing with a voltmeter showed it shorted out between neutral and earth, explaining why the RCD was tripping out.
I used the Siemens website to identify the correct spare part, which turns out to be so widely used across many makes and models of dishwasher it is available on Amazon and ebay). I purchased a replacement (very cheap indeed!), fitted it and the dishwasher now works perfectly.
