While the TV is off, press and hold down the input button, then press the power button for 2 seconds. You should be in the service menu. Using the joystick on the remote scroll down to LCD Adjust. Move the joystick to the right 1 click you should see the word Ghost, move the joystick to the right again 1 click, you should see a black square and LCD Adjust SHP and a number ( take note of the value) Using the joystick left or right adjust the black square for minimal ghosting (grey shadows). Then press the select button on the remote to save the new number. Then press the exit button 3 times to return to a normal picture. Good luck!

I have sony bravia KDL-40BX420 TV ,purchased 03 years back.recently got a problem with pictures & colour. It shows pictures with shadow & colours are blured.please give your feedback

I would check the menu settings and reset everything to default. if there are calibration tests in the menu, use them. Try more than one source for video.

On left half of the screen [ KP51WS510 ], a redish shadow showing

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit wiith instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms
 • Screen Looks 3-D
 • Colors wont align
 • Screen may look distorted or warped
 • No Audio/Video - makes a chirping sound.
Problem #2

Another common problem is dull or washed out video.
Your TV2_bing.gif may have one or more of the following symptoms....
 • Dull looking picture
 • White looking picture
 • Halos around objects
 • Red/Orange looking picture

You can see some more examples and find a fix here

Mitsubishi TV Model #WS65903 - Green Shadow Lines on Screen

Something is not right here--The green is adjustable in the TECH menu--did this person adjust or try to adjust in the customer or the TECH menu?

If you confirm actual model number I can tell you how to get into the TECH menu--yes--green will not adjust in customer menu--it determines geometry and is only adjusted in the TECH menu.

Also, this set requires any convergence adjustments to be done in 480 and then in 1080--if only adjusted in one mode the other will still be bad.

Let me know if you know how to adjust in TECH menu or not--with exact model number I can tell you how to get there.

If this helps you rate this solution as I do this here for free.

I have a mitsubishi HD1080 Ser.#Wf65809 It has worked fine until this week when DirectTV hooked-up their satellite dish and programmed the tv. When the tv is turned-on e the picture is great for about 6-7...

It may be an internal filter on the tuner board or in the cable line. Otherwise it may be a firmware problem that is causing this. Make sure tv is set for CABLE and not AIR

Model 50UX58K - picture has distortion & shadow on right side of screen

Hi, if the shadow is colored lines then you probably need the convergence ICs and possible reisitors near them replaced .
If the shadows is just like a ghost of the image or a bar from top to bottom, then check if it does it on every input (dvd for example) , there are blanking bars that you can't see past the edges of the picture and when you have a bad cable signal you can see the ghost of the blanking bar sometimes. if it does it does not show the shadow when watching a DVD then its a signal issue with your cable/satelitte .
If your convergence is the issue, try the adjustments first and if that doesn't correct it, you can replace the ICs using kit # x480293 or stk392-110 (2 ICs) soldered in very technical for even a technician.
repairman cost about $250-$350
hope this helps

LCD Monitor Shadow Effect
This problem is best described as the LCD monitor "Shadow Effect".
The solution to this very simple. No software or hard ware changes required.
The cables that are connected to the LCD monitors are causing the problem. Its also called as electromagnetic noise or electrical noise.
Solution: Keep the two cables - (power cable and moitor display cable), that are connected to the LCD monitor as far away as possible with each other and also away from other electrical cables.
Thats it. Your shadow effect is fixed.
Thank you.

SHADOW EFFECT

sounds like the conversions is out you maybe able to resit the conversions in the menu or you will have to replace the ic chips. now if you have a DLP set you can not do this and you may need a digital board.

Maganvox TV with red-shadow to picture

Hi Emily,

Your TV has bad convergence amplifiers. They are large integrated circuits that are mounted on large metal heat sinks. They have a part number on them, but might be covered up by a bracket. The part number should start with STK. They are replaced as pairs. You will have to find someone with the skills necessary to replace them.

Best Regards,

Colour

The CRT shadow-mask may no longer be degaussing, or the shadow-mask in the CRT is defective.

In or near to the power supply there is a thermoresistor that controls the degausser coils. When the set is turned on this thermoresistor gives a momentary high AC current to the degausser coil with a rapid decay for slightly over a period of about 200 ms or 1/5th of a second.

If this thermoresitor is defective, it will have to be changed to resore the degausser coil to work again.

On rare occasions I have had a bad degausser coil that had to be changed. I have also had the shadow-mask in the CRT become defective. The fix for a bad shadow-mask is to change the CRT. This is not feasible for this TV set!

You should get an experienced TV service tech to fix this for you.
