Extremely slow shutdown
There are a number of reasons that may causing your HP computer running slow to shut down or start up, but generally two factors: outdated hardware or poor system maintenance. For hardware part: you can get more RAM, higher CPU etc. For system part: there might be a lot of junk files, caches, errors etc out there, about 80% slow HP issues are caused by this reason, in this case you can rely on http://www.speeduphp.com/ to free detect and fix related issues. Clear your cache, download ccleaner and run the cleaner :) you can find it here: http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard

Yes! I would not recommend anything below 2GB at minimum. I have one laptop with 2GB and one with 3GB: they both open programs and browse the internet very quickly. Even with just two programs open (Internet Explorer and Outlook 2007) it uses 1.1GB of memory.
Definitely upgrade your memory. I recommend this site:

Just pick your model and they recommend the memory to pruchase. TIP: order with next day shipping - it's only $10. The free shipping takes 14 days. So unless you're patient (I'm not) the $10 many be worth it.

Hi you have 2 options first get a small screw driver and gently push the card in some are spring loaded and will pop back out,
If yours is not spring loaded then take the screw driver go in to the bottom side of the card and slowly try to pry it out a little at a time try to stay in the middle of the card
SOURCE: i need to conect a fire wire to hp pavilion dv7
I can't recall on that model but I don't think they come standard with Firewire port.
You can get a USB adaptor but they are slow, slower then USB.
Your laptop probably had a PCMCIA slot on it that you can plug a Firewire card into. This is your solution:

Just a related problem: I tried to enter system recovery; pressed F11 repeatedly upon startup and now I'm faced with a lighted but blank screen. I read somewhere that the system recovery on the HP Pavilion dv7 can take as long as overnight. Can this be sure or should I have done something else to correct the slow shutdown. Since I've pressed F11, Vista won't come up at all, even normally.
Thanks!
