No Sound on Gigabyte K8N Pro-SLI

Could my AC97 chip have simply failed?

I'm running a Gigabyte K8N Pro-SLI with 2 gb of RAM, MSI 7600 video card,250 Mb HD, DVD etc. I'm trying to use the onboard AC97 sound for my audio. I'm also using bios version f7 and I've downloaded and installed all of the latest drivers including the audio driver from the Gigabyte site (version 5...something). When I check the system, it indicates that the AC97 audio driver is installed and working properly. The desktop audio manager detects the plug from my speakers. Tests indicate that sounds are being played correctly, but I hear nothing at all. The speakers even give a slight pop if I remove and reconnect the audio plug. The speakers also work fine when I plug them into another PC.

I have checked the bios to ensure the AC97 chip is set to auto and I have also removed and reinstalled several different versions of the audio driver before putting back the most recent one. Have I missed anything or has the AC97 chip simply failed?

It turns out that it was the audio jack itself. I remapped the audio jacks to use the rear sound output jack for standard sound output. Stopped trying to figure out what could have happened to the other jack a while ago. Thanks for trying!

Might be that the chip is bad, make sure that nothing is muted in your volume control also check that digital doesnt have a check on it. some times when digital has a check it wont let you hear anything.

I have a problem with my ram

That motherboard does not have a video circuit built-in, so the video sharing the system RAM does not make sense.

Have you checked the valid system memory configurations in your MSI manual pg 2-7 ?
Any chance that the bios is set for dual channel and you don't have equal chip sizes in the dual slots? Example : In dual-channel mode, equal size chips would go in slots 1 & 3 and in 2 & 4

Defective RAM is a possibility also.

Note1: Per MSI, all ram may not register correctly in windows unless 4 of the 2GB chips are used

NX7800GTX-VT2D256E and MSI K8N Neo4/SLI

What's the specs on your power supply. For SLI you need a good quality 500W+ PSU with lots of current on the 12V rails. Remember that all the drives, memory, fans, cpu, etc will use a lot of power, if there is not enough capability in your PSU, the voltage may drop low enough to stop it starting up.
